    Pros

The opportunity to help people in the pursuit of lifelong goals and achievements was extremely rewarding. Everyday you make a few hundred phone calls, but get a chance to build lasting relationships with people who are soon to forget fear and embrace confidence as they move on to reach a goal that may have seemed far, far away at one point in their lives.
Ashford University and its parent company Bridgepoint Education also gives its employees a tuition remission program where an employee can finish an undergraduate degree, master's degree, or even a doctoral degree.

    Cons

The hardest part of this job for me was sitting/standing at a desk all day. Living in San Diego where the sun shines 90% of the year, being chained to a desk for 8 hrs+ can become very difficult.
Being told the position is not a sales job just did not feel right. I understand the position is regulated by the Dept. of Education, but in reality it is a consultative sales position. Seems to interfere with integrity.

    Advice to Management

Be more sincere when talking to your employees. Don't talk too them as if they are prospective students on the other end of a phone call. Your employees are standing in front of you most of the time.

I have been working at Ashford University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ashford University provides extensive training to their new faculty, and they provide a specialist with each instructor so that you have a contact for questions and concerns. Everyone at Ashford has been helpful and supportive.

    Cons

I have no complaints. It's a lot to take in at once, but that's the case with any new position. The training period really prepared me, and I'm thankful to have my specialist who helps me with anything that confuses me.

    Advice to Management

None. Thank you for being so encouraging, helpful, and supportive.

I have been working at Ashford University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Creative, passionate, team environment committed to student success. This is a University first and a Business second. There is a concerted focus on changing lives and positively impacting communities. This is the best job I have ever had...I so glad I decided to join the team!!

    Cons

The accreditation issue makes people nervous. But once WASC accreditation is granted, the sky is the limit.

    Advice to Management

Remain focused on student learning and changing lives. The new President is an amazing leader.

I have been working at Ashford University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Benefits and Salary. Highest starting salary in San Diego for sure. Free education, great work environment, no micro managing. Work hard and you get rewarded. All the people who write reviews saying Admissions counselors lie to students are lying themselves. Employees who lie to students or do anything dishonest are walked out imediately. Students who are not eligible to go to school are denied admission period.

    Cons

Disgruntled employees who lie about the schools practices. Wasc accreditation is nerve wracking. I don't want to move to Denver.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the massive layoffs, Don't hire so many people that don't work out. Keep improving and don't let processes hang up the student progression process.

I worked at Ashford University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, flexible hours, voluntary leadership training, multiple locations, health and wellness programs provided, really good leadership, and everyone is treated like family.

    Cons

Parking can be a pain in the but as there never seems to be enough, though they are working on that continually. Although change can be a great thing, their rapid change is often not communicated well to the lower-level employees. The addition of Dr. Richard Pattenaude has improve this as well.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on leadership development and do not lose sight of this while going through current difficulties.

The University is growing and there are positive moves on the horizon.

    Cons

With growth comes trial and error initiatives. Dealing with change is a task.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on the development of our students.

I have been working at Ashford University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are nice, they sponsor sports teams so they raffle off tickets a lot which is nice. Great pay and a lot of room for growth. They try to build their employees' leaderships skills even if the employee doesn't plan on staying with the company.

    Cons

My position is very micro managed. Literally every second of your day is accounted for and you will get questioned if you have like 5 minutes of time off the phones. People that call in are extremely rude and demeaning.

    Advice to Management

SSCs need a little more freedom to perform their duties, but overall management seems to care.
