I worked at Ashland full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Stock is doing great right now

    Cons

Company has been in flux since acquiring Hercules in 2008. Stock may be at a high but employee moral is very low. The CIO keeps sending jobs to Mexico and India and letting go of the HEART of the company. IT is done by Atos now and they can't even find the Esc key on the upper left of a keyboard.

    Advice to Management

Resign now and get some fresh blood in to make the company great again.

    I worked at Ashland

    Pros

Early days were fantastic before the acquisitions.

    Cons

After Hercules bought Ashland, things went into the toilet. IT often mused how long it would take Anne to outsource IT. Answer? About 8 years. I understand it isn’t a happy place anymore.

    Advice to Management

    Got nothing for you.

I have been working at Ashland full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Regular worker bees who are good and know how to do their jobs. Social awareness and local charitable work. Promise by upper management to simplify systems and processes.

    Cons

R & D of two acquired units ( Hercules & ISP) have nearly failed to integrate cultures, and develop trust. In general the management does not trust employees to do the job for which they are hired and are qualified. It is run like a privately owned company, with an attitude that floggings will continue till morale improves.

    Advice to Management

Do a critical analysis of what the employees feel, with a well intented survey. Ask your people for frank critical input; note that the head honcho is only another scientist ; and not the brightest of the lot. Show tolerance and patience when it comes to technical glitches and delays. Investigate how one group sabotages another, and take effective actions to stop the self defeating tactics.

I worked at Ashland full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good work and life balance. Good standing in the community. Ashland encourages community service so there is a lot of opportunities to contribute to causes within the community.

    Cons

Ashland recently merged with ISP and two years prior acquired Hercules so there has been a lot of management shifts. The recent round of lay offs affected almost every aspect of management, HR and accounting and finance. Ashland management outlines goals and mission statement but some of their implementation is faulty. Lack of cohesive leadership makes it hard to feel a part of the company.

    Advice to Management

Stop exploiting your employees. Morale is very low because management is fickle and the plant personnel see accounting and management teams leave only to be replaced by novices in this industry. Confidence is low because management does not improve infrastructure that is old but pour tons of money into a location only to abandon it. Stop the dysfunction.
