Pros
Great brand awareness and solid parent company. They're diversified in the specialty chemicals arena enough to provide a solid base for the company overall. Customers like the products and tend to prefer them. A majority of the people are really great, smart, talented people that want to succeed.
Cons
This company is your stereotypical large public corporation concentrating on short term stock price. They'll make bad decisions if they think it will boost the stock price. The same goes with pricing. They'll raise price to increase sales with no thought to how the market reacts to it. They are not customer centered and are willing to walk away from customers if they don't fit their model of the perfect customer.... Finally, Ashland is also the stereotypical "Good 'Ole Boys Club" type of company. Those at mid-to-upper management willing assign blame to their subordinates for the bad decisions.

Fix the culture and find some true leaders that inspire and collaborate with the employees and customers rather than have a myopic view of the business.

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookDisapproves of CEOI worked at Ashland full-time for more than 10 years
Pros
The one good thing if any is the health and 401K plans
Cons
Cannot trust anyone in upper management, always leave meetings with a negative feel, nothing gets accomplished.
Advice to Management
Learn to hold people accountable for bad decisions, meaning upper management personal should take the hit not the employees who have no say in decision making. You are letting good employee's go and shutting down plants that don't need to be closed. One was mine!
