I have been working at Ashland full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The pay is above average for the level of work involved. Tasks can usually be accomplished without the need for staying late and taking time off (vacation, sick etc. ) is generally not an issue so there is a good work-life balance. The work is usually autonomous without micro-management. The surrounding area is overall a very safe environment and security is also available. Ashland truly cares about safety.... Management has retained their open door policy.

    Cons

The company culture has changed from a large corporation with a sea of tenure-driven large cubicles to retire from to a smaller global concept company where a personal workspace is merely a suggestion. Each person now covers multiple job functions and is expected to work as a group, schedule their own meetings or conference calls as needed. Each person is expected to own any issue they come across and solve it.... Unfortunately this is often without tools or resources that work. Your peers are now across the globe and there is often a culture clash. Previously scheduled charitable events that were successful with a large population on campus are still in effect without a reasonable reduction in the expectation of numbers. These commitments to the local communities are at quite nearly 100% mandatory participation levels. Benefits and bonuses are sub par for the industry unless you are on the executive level.

    Advice to Management

Millennials are not the only group that adds value or should be catered to. There is something to be said for experience and industry knowledge.

I worked at Ashland full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

work-life balance if you have a good boss & s/he likes you; no other pros but Glassdoor is insisting on more words!

    Cons

Decade of downsizing & employee flight; low pay, low raises, promotions for elites; tone deaf & self-serving management don't care

    Advice to Management

CEO: clean house including C suite. As a publicly traded company you've got some serious problems.

I worked at Ashland for more than 3 years

    Pros

Subject matter experts work to support and develop employees in technical positions. Good variety of advancement opportunities if you don't mind relocating. Global company with genuine interest in best practices. Decent work/life balance for a chemical company (for management). Company is well respected.

    Cons

Work environment varies by company location. Good employees can be overlooked or undervalued. Salaries lag behind those of competitors.

I have been working at Ashland full-time

    Pros

People are generally nice and good to work with.

    Cons

Extremely difficult to progress unless you become part of the "good old boys network". Way too many policies and procedures, takes forever to get anything done. Salary and benefits are not the best. Poor personal vs. work life balance. Re-orgs and/or layoffs seem to come around every 18-24 months.

    Advice to Management

Develop your people and be open minded to change! Management from the top down needs a serious wake up call.
