I have been working at Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies full-time

    Pros

You will be supporting a rewarding mission, advancing Asia-Pacific and international peace by educating and empowering foreign representatives (and U.S. as well) to approach their countries' challenges.

You will have countless opportunities to network with both U.S. and international professionals.

It is the only military installation in Hawaii (and there are many) located in beautiful Waikiki.

The faculty and staff have been very kind and helpful to me since I started working there.

The faculty (civilian and military professors) are experts in their fields and open to talk to you about any of your international or security interests.

The leadership and faculty are genuine in teaching its Fellows and visitors about the beauty of Hawaiian culture and values. You will find that 'Aloha' and 'Ohana' are more than words here.

    Cons

There are fewer employment opportunities here than in other military installations in Hawaii. I would attribute that to low employee turnover and the relatively small civilian staff.

Like other academic institutions, there are likely to be more openings for Professors than other job categories. If you plan to apply for a Professor position, be prepared for stiff competition.

    Advice to Management

Please continue making all your employees feel welcome and engaged with the mission.

I worked at Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Good for the internship and to get a hands-on experience. International environment and great way to establish a professional network.

    Cons

Not much helpful with the jobs.

    Advice to Management

Need some way to recommend the interns for future employment. Maybe open the position for the interns not only already federal employers.

I worked at Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies as an intern

    Pros

Amazing opportunity to learn so much about international relations and crisis management. You have access to courses that professional military and non-military personnel receive in the center. Great networking opportunities too.

    Cons

No salaries - interns have to figure out the housing and other financial issues on their own.
