I worked at Asia Pulp & Paper full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good relationships with the US team, great product if you can wait 4 to 6 weeks if your lucky

    Cons

To many to mention but APP NIngbo does not know the US market, they send in expensive unqualified people from corp and agencies to figure out what - but the answers are within the US sales team - IF they can hire people who know paperboard

    Advice to Management

I have been a part of APP going back to the late 1990's to 2013 either selling their product or working for them and they come to the US market not knowing and not listening, they will never capture more than 2 to 4% of the US market because you "must build for them to come" and not 7000 miles away

    Pros

If you can sell a product and can deal with overseas shipments then you could have great success, but make sure you have a salary plus incentive and not full commission.

    Cons

Service is a key obstacle to your success. This means delivery, technical, quality and customer service are not in your control...

    Advice to Management

Create a better system of follow through with all service aspects to show customers you respect their business and want more in the future. The customer buying a commodity is buying a relationship that can only be handled by the local representative whose recommendations must be considered.

I worked at Asia Pulp & Paper full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

In this company their is lot you can explore and learn from different people. get opportunity to interact with top management. Its growing company in Pulp & Paper industry

    Cons

From day one you need to be ready with you Resume to apply with other company because there is no job security
You can get fired anytime without any prior notice and policies keep changing
And you salary is been deducted for not achieving target every month, so i would suggest to negotiate keeping in mind that your 10-15% salary is going to be deducted.
Unreasonable targets which can't to achieved in any case

    Advice to Management

I would advise top management to trust their people & allow them to run organisation and keep your focus on larger issue. If top management keeps interfering they people get demotivate.

I have been working at Asia Pulp & Paper full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Massive buying and production power
    $14 billion in sales volume
    The remuneration is fair

    Cons

Horrific management style that continually changes at the whim of the overly aggressive owners.
Its not the knowledge that you carry, its the B.S. that you spew that will get you anywhere in this company.
There aren't any values associated with this company that many would look at this company for a long-term career. People in positions of power in the North American market should be held accountable...every year its the same old stories from the same old tired, worn out managers trying to save their jobs. Ex-professionals coming in as managers or VP's to markets because of 'favors' and produce nothing but turmoil and good stories of previous false achievements. If you truly want to take the market (like they say they do) reward the ones that bring you the business, not the ones with good stories.

    Advice to Management

Promote from knowledge, not from hearsay. The Asian model may be a good thing in the Asian markets, no doubt, it does not work in the North American markets. So to continually send people over to 'tell; us like it is' only creates an unproductive team that could produce double in North America

    Pros

The only thing I can think of that would be a pro, is that it is full time employment.

    Cons

Brutal, brutal management. You need to be family or incompetent...seriously. This company could own the Canadian market ,but with poor decisions and horrible management and dismissals out the ying/yang (people get this that work ) it does nothing for moral.

    Advice to Management

Replace yourself with people in the know

    Cons

Below average bonus and rising salary per year
Performance review by higher management only not 360
Quota basis for performance score, as some team member will set to B or C even KPI been achieve
Higher barrier to middle - high management level

    Advice to Management

Rising salary should consider also inflation in each area
More mentoring and training to upgrade skill
Highly consider reviewing middle layer management performance to avoid hindering low and high manager performance

    Pros

Strategic working area, easily to be reached by public transportation and near shopping center and food courts.

    Cons

Too many expatriates which caused high cost for the wages, and the wage gap between the local and expatriates is too wide and unfair.

    Advice to Management

More attention for the employee (local) benefit, such as bonus, rewards, medical benefit and treat them more as a company assets.

    Pros

Great work life balance, Great Place to Learn Business Knowledge: Management System, Sales Strategy, Labor Efficiency, Cost Savings, etc

    Cons

You will NEVER be on TOP unless you're related with the family or been a good friend with family. Salary is differentiate by Passport (Not Knowledge): Indian & Taiwanese = High Salary; Indonesian = Low Salary.

    Advice to Management

Reduce Indian & Taiwanese employees. Many local employees are smarter than them.

I have been working at Asia Pulp & Paper full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    1. You got few good and smart people working with you and you will be able to learn a lot from them provided they are not harassed by headquarter
    2. Compensation and benefit could be very competitive if you join this company in the right time and right position
    3. Career opportunity could be possibly rewarding

    Cons

    1. Endless and ridiculous target setting from upper management could easily confuse employees
    2. Lots of repetitive pointless meeting with extremely short notice occupied all your time
    3. Reporting line is a mess
    4. Company culture is not friendly to new comer, orientation is nothing and training is surprisingly weak

    Advice to Management

    1. Recruit people you trust only and once they join trust them fully, delegation is everything for company with this size
    2. Stop all the micro-management activities immediately as it will only hamper subordinates' morale
    3. Do not promise much but once you do you follow through
    4. Performance comes from daily activities and work site, not from meeting room. Having meeting all day long generate not even one penny
