I have been working at Aspen Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Aspen is outstanding in their respect and care for each individual employee. It truly is like family . Management and owners know each employee and allow flexibility when needed. Benefits are very generous with 100% company-paid health & dental insurance for the employee.

    Cons

Would be nice to add a few personal days and additional holidays (i.e., day-after Thanksgiving) to the generous benefit list.

    Advice to Management

Each employee brings unique skill and strengths to the organization. Thank you for recognizing this and helping us to grow together.

    Pros

Owners and senior management truly care about their people. They are invested in the success and happiness of their employees and go a long way to make sure they have opportunities to contribute to the business. They are receptive to the ideas and feedback of their employees and customers. With less than 50 employees, it was a very close knit company, much like a family. The office is new and top notch. Great office and work environment

    Cons

no specific cons during my time there. any negatives would be simple matters of preference and opinion, not anything that impacted success or opportunity.

I have been working at Aspen Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have been at Aspen for only a few years as of now, but my experience has been nothing short of amazing. What I love most is that they truly appreciate the talent of each individual employee and you will be rewarded for working hard and doing quality work. They also take great pride in their employees here at Aspen, often providing them with food and other goodies to celebrate special occasions, such as most sales, birthdays, holidays, and sometimes just to be nice! The environment is also very low stress, at least in Development, which makes weekends and off time far more relaxing knowing that you can just handle anything from work... well... at work! There is never any pressure to work overtime or come in on weekends, so it really is an awesome place to be!

One last thing that I really admire: No matter your experience as a Software Developer, the leads and managers will always take time to listen to your design ideas and goals, and they will really weight the pros and cons of what you have to say. It is a great feeling to be heard and have your opinions and ideas factored into the design of a large scale enterprise application.

    Cons

It wouldn't be fair to say that any company is without its cons, but Aspen is pretty dang close! I haven't found anything to complain about. I personally think that if you do, you should go work somewhere else for a bit and come back. I am sure your complaints will be resolved :)

    Advice to Management

Keep rewarding the hard work and dedication from those employees who really display it. Obviously, what you are doing works, so I can't say anything other than keep it up!

I have been working at Aspen Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The true 'caring' doesn't stop with the employees, who are treated like family. The CUSTOMER is also very much cared for, in a sincere and true way. Every employee seems to be primarily driven by the fact that they want a happy and satisfied customer. If there are situations which are challenging, staff representing sometimes every department quickly huddles to create the best solution possible, with the customer's need being the biggest variable. The ongoing support plan offered is second-to-none with regard to value for the dollars, and includes a block of monthly hours for the flagship software services, and rights to all software upgrades. Services are provided 24/7, 365, and again, the driving force seems to always be the closure of an issue in the quickest manner possible, with a pleased customer at the end. An obvious benefit to this is a highly 'reference-able' customer base, but even THAT doesn't seem to primarily drive the service mentality and core philosophies. The company wants a happy base who uses and exercises the product to its fullest potential, and gets directly involved with the product's future. Nice place to work, particularly when the customers are so nice, too.

    Cons

The facility shares a parking lot with a very large and popular 'Lifetime Fitness'. Lifetime's customers are lunatic drivers in and out of the parking lot, focusing it would seem only on getting back to work after their lunchtime workout, and the lot can actually be a dangerous place to maneuver around.

    Advice to Management

The driven-down philosophies have almost guaranteed the company's historical success. If you find yourselves implementing change and it is in any way inconsistent with those philosophies, think hard about that change. The philosophies have been the key.

    Pros

You are afforded flexibility and allowed to use your own creativity in getting the job done without being micro-managed. In most positions you wear many hats- no day is ever the same. Great teamwork in a family atmosphere where the individual is truly respected. And a casual work environment with super benefits.

    Cons

A/C works REALLY well here so bring a sweater to work, even in the summer.

    Advice to Management

Continue to do what you’ve done for so long.

I have been working at Aspen Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I enjoy working where I feel like I am a part of a team. Everyone takes the time to assist when and where they are needed, bettering the company. There is very little turnover in employment giving the office environment a family atmosphere, which isn’t surprising since it is a family owned and operated corporation.

    Cons

Although the new office space is a nice upgrade to our previous office, the walls need to be better insulated throughout the office.

    Advice to Management

Thank you for treating your employees like human beings instead of the typical “Corporate America.” It’s nice to be known as a person and not just a number. It’s appreciated that you take the time to get to know your employees personally, and that you are open to new, creative ideas to better the company.

    Pros

100% company-paid health & dental insurance (where do you find that today?), comfortable working environment, good location, stable company with long history, flexible work schedule

    Cons

Working remotely (ie. telecommuting) is forbidden although technology allows for it, dinosaur mentality in a technology environment, strange group of personalities many of whom have never had any other outside work experience, cliquish, immature, no outside socializing.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and realize it's 2011, you really don't have to operate like you did in 1980. Renew emphasis on what it takes to keep this company profitable and growing, stop focusing on the fluff. Acknowledge and appreciate your employees (a word of honest praise goes a long way), hold your employees responsible and accountable. This is not a daycare, people.
