Good people but old-schooled mindset

Very good colleagues that will support you.
Cons
The benefits are not good at all. Things take years to change.

Pros
You will get a lot of experience in the software business. Health benefits are very good. Co-workers are very friendly.
Cons
-Salary and raises are a joke compared to the amount of work they expect you to do. - Management turns a blind eye to problems & expect you to deal with it. -Untrained, unexperienced and disrespectful people are put in higher level positions, driving a whole department out of the company. -If there is a snow storm, do not expect your manager to let you work from home; instead they'll say: "Take your time getting here or use a vacation day".

Awesome health benefits, but that's about it

AspenTech has really good benefits and they seem to get progressively better year over year.
Cons
Your job can really suck depending on your manager. It's hard to understand how some of these managers earned their positions and have managed to stay here. But I guess when you have everyone else doing the work you take credit for it's pretty easy.

Focusing more on financials than on quality and people
Jun 30, 2009 -RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Aspen has some very good benefits, that have been left over from when they were first started. The salary is good and the benfits, especially the healthcare are good. Overall, the people that work there, especially in services, are nice and good to work with.
Cons
Since Mark Fusco has taken over, there is definitely a very strong focus on financial performance. Granted, strong financials are strong for any company, especially a company like Aspen that almost went under, but it seems to be taking away from the quality of the products and services, as well as the focus on people. Aspen also seems to have an ivory tower mentality in terms of product development. The development organization is very inwardly focused and seems to look down on the customers and other parts of the comany. Lastly, the company does not seem to really focus or care about employeed development or training. They offer elearning, but anything beyond that is near impossible to do.

AspenTech Marketing - Great Employer
Jul 13, 2015 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
:Overall great work life balance Open minded, collaborative atmosphere that strikes a good balance between team work and working autonomously Very intelligent, experienced leaders who develop their teams Office politics are much calmer and easier to navigate compared to other companies Some flexibility around commuting hours
Cons
Not very tolerant with remote working, though supervisors in the department are fairly flexible with this if there is a specific need on occasion (i.e. medical appointment, bad weather). Benefits are good, but not as great as what you'll find at a Fortune 100 company.
We are proud of the passion and dedication our employees bring to their work every day. Being a market leader in a constantly changing industry, we recognize the importance of collaboration to our success. We believe working together in a shared office space helps promote an effective team environment to get work done. We recognize there is a need for flexibility regarding weather or personal situations and we continue to review our office policies to allow appropriate flexibility for our employees.

Run away as fast as you can!
Oct 6, 2013 - Director in Burlington, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good colleagues, good location, free parking. Good benefits package - which is very surprising. (Don't get sick or hurt though - company will penalize for that)
Cons
No room for advancement, very poor morale, upper management never interacts with anyone lower than vp level. When things go wrong lots of finger pointing and no recognition for successes. Threats and fear are used to motivate.
