I worked at Association of the Bar of the City of New York as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

A great experience in running legal clinics and providing pro bono services to low income New Yorkers. Also good place to network with volunteer attorneys. Solid supervision and collegial environment.

    Cons

No real cons. Sometimes there could be more interaction with populations served outside of the center--more community events to promote legal services.

    Advice to Management

More technological access to services and Community outreach beyond the scheduled clinics. Also the opportunity for interns to explore other projects target outside of their assigned project.

I have been working at Association of the Bar of the City of New York full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Overall, this is a great place to start young and gain experience. Managers are always willing to give out extra work etc. Very flexible on many levels and relaxed atmosphere.

    Cons

The pay isn't that great compared to other nonprofits. Over worked and overlooked when it comes to growth.

    Advice to Management

Really consider the staffs work load and needs. And it wouldn't hurt to give a raise that you couldn't actually see in your paycheck.

Good family and work balance. There is some liberty to be innovative and develop projects on your own if you are an independent person.

    Cons

Stuck in the past. Needs an update and to care about employers. Salary is pretty low but thats what you get for a non profit.
