I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

AH is a wonderful place to work. Good management direction, flexible hours, above average pay, great team environment, company sponsored picnics annually.

    Cons

Assurant Health had about 2,000 employee two years ago. After the healthcare reform was passed, Assurant made the decision to exit the health insurance industry.

I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work and learn. Majority of employees have been with the company many years and the company does a lot for its employees. The miami campus is beautiful and has everything you'll need inside. From gym to a full out cafeteria.

    Cons

They offer great benefits but their pay is low compared to other companies. They're way behind when it comes to technology and innovation. Maybe that comes with the insurance industry. Growth can be slow if you settle in and promotion don't equal to much of a pay raise.

    Advice to Management

Upgrade your technology. With so much out there to learn there is no need to be stuck in the dark ages of tech. This will bring efficiencies to your processes and better results for your clients. Lastly, don't be afraid of change. Just because it's been done a certain way does not mean it can't be improved. And don't stop treating employees as your number one asset.

I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Vacation time and 401k Match are good, culture is good. Facilities are very nice and it looks great. Solar panels provide much of the energy so the company is fairly responsible. The employees here are wonderful productive people.

    Cons

Top heavy with many VPs, Mediocre health benefits, 3% raise budget since economic collapse, always leaning out processes, poor pay increases for internal promotions, fairly stuffy atmosphere with no shorts. The company just froze the pension.

    Advice to Management

We don't work with the public so I'm not sure why the dress code doesn't allow shorts. Getting rid of the pension was a huge blow. The pay raises need to be bumped up to at least 4% per unit. People who have worked here for a long time need to be making more than others hired off streets.

I have been working at Assurant full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They offer very attractive severance packages, and my department allowed people to telecommute on a regular basis. Other than that, there isn't much good to say about this company.

    Cons

It's a very "old school" company. Their systems look like some kid's seventh grade science project from about twenty five years ago. Management was far less than competent.

    Advice to Management

Hire managers that have more than a high school education, and that know how to use basic reasoning and logic.

I worked at Assurant (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and wonderful vacation package.

    Cons

Company is downsizing and is not replacing employees, creating a large burden for those who remain. HR department is inaccessible to employees unless you make an appointment. Uncaring about retaining great performers.

    Advice to Management

Company needs to let go of poor performing managers instead of moving them to other departments.

I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I appreciate that there is generally a relaxed atmosphere. The project deliverables are achievable and not unrealistic. This location is casual and allows for comfortable dress. There is recognition for a job well done and a willingness to recognize contribution.

    Cons

The upper management has pledge commitment to process improvement, but doesn't put pressure on those that would rather stick to the status quo and don't want to move forward.
Project management is lacking understanding of the processes and systems involved in large changes; too compartmentalized without communication between departments. I was struck by the contention that existed between teams that should have been cooperative. Too much covering of one's own behind.

    Advice to Management

Train up, and insist that middle management cooperate across teams. One of the IT groups lacks direction and focus, is quick to blame other parties for their delivery shortfalls.
Despite a recent raise, if I were more appropriately compensated for my skills, I wouldn't be inclined to solicit my services elsewhere. The compensation package is behind the general market.

    Pros

Work with great people, who will be friends for life

    Cons

Overworked, no room for upward mobility, no significant pay increases, no bonuses unless you are management

    Advice to Management

Don't just listen to the "voice of the customer", listen to the people who work hard for you everyday.
