I worked at Assurant full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some of the team leads are friendly and supportive. If you are a top performer there are opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Nepotism, micromanagement, tedious boring work, poor pay, unrealistic performance expectations; if you don’t catch on within the first week you’re canned. The demands of the job and expectations of flawless metrics and adherence to a strict schedule are comparable to the military but for a pittance of a couple thousand a month after taxes. Management doesn’t help to resolve issues until a situation is serious. My first paycheck never came. That was a month ago. I still don’t have it. This company professes to be a supportive family culture but in practice demonstrates little to no respect for its entry level employees.

The atmosphere is too quiet, serious, and patrolled by control freak tenured employees. The ergo chairs don’t adjust and Herman Miller’s economy design is hard, stiff, and confining. I left with compromised lower back condition after a short while. There’s nowhere to get enough privacy on break or lunch either. There are no games or comfortable lounges.

They don’t appear to attract and keep many people. Since lateness or absenteeism are like a felony I don’t think many survive to long term employment.

Unless you really need a job and you’ve got an offer, do yourself a favor and steer clear until you find a better place.

    Advice to Management

Actions speak louder than words: Stop saying how much you care about your employees and start demonstrating a little genuine mindful consideration of their needs.

I have been working at Assurant (More than a year)

    Pros

Not much. Decent PTO and managers are nice but upper corporate management is money hungry and very restrictive on budget.

    Cons

A very broken customer service department and guidelines. Theres no morality with the customer and seem to take advantage.

    Advice to Management

Reformat most procedures and improve in network providers. Claims processing is mediocre.

I worked at Assurant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My co-workers were absolutely great. They were the ones that made the days easier. The company promotes from within. The company does a lot of activities to keep the moral up within the company.

    Cons

I caught on to the favoritism pretty quickly. Plus I received a lot of information from other co-workers verifying that. Although the company promotes from within they seem to look over those that have years of experience for those who have gone through their long process of being promoted. You can come in with over 25 years of experience as a call center manager, like myself, and they will want you to start from the beginning. You have to wait 9 months before you can apply for any new position. However, there were those who were promoted before then. Then when you do get to a position that will pay more money because you have been there for years, they just might find a reason to fire you because you make to much. Unfortunately, I lot of companies do this in these at will states.

    Advice to Management

Utilize the talent that comes through the door.

I worked at Assurant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This job is a great job if you like staying busy and learning. Fast paced and decent paying, with a bump for working second shift.

    Cons

Not so much fun if you aren’t able to let things roll off your back. It is easy to find yourself upset about something a customer said to you, or to feel like something that happened to a customer is your fault.

    Advice to Management

Have a line available for call center workers to decompress.

I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company, with great insurance and benefits. 401k matching program awesome, insurance Anthem Blue Cross, company pays for most of the insurance.

    Cons

Stagnant, hard to get promoted unless you and the hiring supervisor are buddies.

    Advice to Management

Start hiring people or promoting people because of how efficient they are not on how they fall on you .

    Pros

    Benefits - 401K was great
    Work/Life balance
Location is close to nice restaurants and living, close to new stadium
Pay is mediocre could definitely be higher

    Cons

    Ops and unit managers
Benefits - insurance covers little to nothing on our costs and the prescription plan sucks! Prescription plan in specific does not cover much or provide any breaks or discounts on medicines.

    Advice to Management

Hold ops and unit managers accountable for actions even when tenured
