I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, cafeteria morning and afternoon, beautiful campus with security, depending on what you do the pay is competitive.
    Nice culture, inclusive.

    Cons

Most of the leadership grew from the bottom (which is great) but without much management and leadership training. So they are like kids with power for the first time; promoting friends and making decisions that hurt the employees and the company. They think it's ok because in their heads they are bosses and can decide what they want.
Assurant is inclusive when it comes to hiring. I can't tell if they are when it comes to promoting.

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about your friends and start looking at numbers when looking to promote.
Start learning insurance outside of Assurant, especially laws.
    Hire better candidates.
Ask people to speak up, but then don't hold it against them.
Try to do the job once in a while. Stay relevant. It's not the same as when you started.

Nice people, great benefits, good company

    Cons

I can't complain, they treated me well

    Advice to Management

don't overwork good employees, build up the one's who aren't as strong so they can carry the load

I worked at Assurant as a contractor

    Pros

When it was American Bankers, it was a good company to work for. They were hard to work for even back then, but, at least then they were fair.

    Cons

It's amazing how this company prides itself on giving back to the community (i.e. Farm Share, homes for the homeless, etc etc). They have thrown so many of their own employees out on the street with no job it's incredible! They put me under an all Hispanic team in Miami and that team created a hostile work environment against me because I was Anglo White. They were just trying to run me out. It was a group of, best way to describe them is "perfectionist bullies". IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT WORKING FOR THIS COMPANY, DON'T!!! THE NON-HISPANICS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY ARE AFRAID TO VOICE WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THEM IN THE WORKPLACE. I AM NOT. I WON'T QUIT UNTIL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS HOW BAD THEY REALLY ARE!

    Advice to Management

    Shut your company down.

I worked at Assurant full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Location and property upkeep, volunteer time and charitable donations, attached school and daycare, good space to keep physically active

    Cons

Too many rude people, hard workers have to work harder due to lazy ones, schizophrenic priorities and constant deckchair shuffling, too many layers of management that are clueless, "it is what it is" = refusal to even consider making things better, lack of investment in employees, and a massive culture of "malicious compliance" enabled by lack of pride, ownership, and oversight.

    Advice to Management

Take a careful look at your middle management who are actually implementing directives. When enterprise software is selected it seems functionality, usability, trainability, stability, and track record are nowhere near the top of the radar. Why is that? With each passing few months tools get replaced with inferior versions and the percentage of the job that's dealing with hassle increases leaving less time to work on stuff that matters. When people aren't doing things that make sense, that's erosive to anyone who does work instead of just takes credit for it. Any manager that cannot sit in substitution for their subordinates should be let go: they simply don't know where their cup is. Ask for, and listen to, advice that the people on the ground offer before they leave you next time.
