I worked at Assurant as a contractor

    Pros

When it was American Bankers, it was a good company to work for. They were hard to work for even back then, but, at least then they were fair.

    Cons

It's amazing how this company prides itself on giving back to the community (i.e. Farm Share, homes for the homeless, etc etc). They have thrown so many of their own employees out on the street with no job it's incredible! They put me under an all Hispanic team in Miami and that team created a hostile work environment against me because I was Anglo White. They were just trying to run me out. It was a group of, best way to describe them is "perfectionist bullies". IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT WORKING FOR THIS COMPANY, DON'T!!! THE NON-HISPANICS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY ARE AFRAID TO VOICE WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THEM IN THE WORKPLACE. I AM NOT. I WON'T QUIT UNTIL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS HOW BAD THEY REALLY ARE!

    Advice to Management

    Shut your company down.

I worked at Assurant (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Pay and benefits were good

    Cons

The Digital Solutions Group is leadership is weak at best. They are responsible for multiple failed product launches and have no credibility with other internal teams, much less internally in Digital. They are arrogant, do not treat others with respect and have gained too much power to fast.

    Advice to Management

Replace the CDO and VP with people that others will rally around. Work on the culture, pizza Friday just isnt cutting it.

    Pros

Supervisor was great and would have taken things in a great direction had he been given more leverage.

    Cons

Upper Management is all over the place and does nothing but ask other's to do their work. The departments are barely staying afloat.

    Advice to Management

Get with it.... horrible management system. Upper Management gossips more than works

I worked at Assurant full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The People I trained with were all very cool. You get to sit down 95% of your 9-5 day. The break room seemed nice.

    Cons

It's a telemarketing job and You're a bill collector. The training class was awful. There is an over aggressive girl in her mid twenties with a kid as your instructor. She takes over the entire class and is very aggressive and obnoxious. She is Better off as a telemarketer. She was supposedly the best when she did make calls and I think she should go back to it. She is not good with people, she is extremely aggressive to the point of insulting. She turned me off to this company and lost a very valuable player.

    Advice to Management

Fire the trainer and hire someone who has a proven track record with training and not someone who used to be good on the Phones and have an alternative person to train your new team. The training instructor seemed to dictate everyone in the office and it was ridiculous.

    Cons

Way more work than any human can handle. They are driven only by productivity and have no support system in place to assist with the crush of back end work.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic and hire more people.

I have been working at Assurant (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Summer company outings. Holiday bonus

    Cons

Most of the people who work here are uneducated, and it shows. The managers don't know the job their associates do. People are promoted based on favoritism, not skill. Then when things go wrong, no one knows what to do. Some managers are vindictive, especially the ones that only have a high school education. I'm not saying that everyone needs a degree, but maybe the people in management and upper management do.

    Advice to Management

Promote based on skill, not how much you like someone.
