    Advice to Management

This is for AFS (formerly Field Asset Services)

Assurant is not a technology company. If you intend to keep pace in the 21st century, you have to invest in technology. When your IT department is using email software from the turn of the millennium, you have a problem. Whoever runs the IT at Assurant corporate is so incredibly inept it's embarrassing.

The field servicing industry is extraordinarily complex, and the efforts to control that complexity have been meager at best. You need to spend millions on software, training, and process development to handle this. The only way this works fiscally is if you intend to corner the market at some point in the future by having the best technology - and therefore, best margins.

Since Assurant is run by risk-averse actuaries, you probably won't be investing in technology. The smart thing now is to simply sell this business and write down the loss. Buy Low, sell Lower. Unless you think another housing crisis is coming. In which case, hold and pray.

I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The diverse schedule. I work a 12 hour shift three days a week and have four days off.

    Cons

Strict policies...not well organized...high turn over rate...I am the only person left out of my orientation group...communication is lacking. There seems to be quite a bit of favoritism such as many of the rules do not apply to everyone. The occurrence system they have seems to cause quite a few employees to lose their job...even if the employ is fantastic at his or her job...he or she has to be sure to clock into work and out of work with little mistake.

    Advice to Management

Better communication...take the time to actually hear what an employee has to say it seems that everyone there is in such a rush...I realize that production is very important...however...it seem s that all management cares about are the numbers of production...

I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

benefits package and PTO is decent, they promote volunteerism in the community. Amenities in the break room are nice.

    Cons

Management is not good at communicating. A lot of changes are coming down from corporate which are not always friendly to the light manufacturing side of the business. Morale is low due to lack of upward mobility for hourly associates and not a lot of recognition. Mandatory OT has people working 6+ days/week and people are exhausted and its counter-productive.

    Advice to Management

Have a clear path of career growth, give incentives for people who work their butts off and want to grow with the company. Treat people with respect of their time and lay off the ridiculous amounts of mandatory overtime, forcing people to get occurrences or use PTO if they cannot make it in for their 6th day in a row of work.

I worked at Assurant full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Assurant has a handful of nice co-workers. It used to be a very good place to work for. However it changed significantly when the higher up managements change the culture and now becoming like a sweat shop company.

    Cons

Getting very cheap with benefits and raise. More works with all the acquisitions without compensations. Demanding more and more but did not want to give any compensations for the extra workloads.

    Advice to Management

Do not be so stingy to the employees. The Company's reputation is also important for the Shareholders.
