I worked at Assurant full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good health benefits, Miami trip is nice yearly.

    Cons

Their solution to the slower market conditions caused by health-care reform is to micro manage MORE, cut commissions, and take away ways to make money.. when I was their they took away Individual Medical (hot product) took away already scarce broker data base and gave them to home office team, why? Who knows, they do all kinds of odd and weird things to make it harder to make money.

    Advice to Management

If you like an employee, find ways to make them happy, I constantly saw the best employee's not given any reason to stay, but given reasons to tick them off, cause them to make less money, leading to high turnover, high burn out, and agitated employee's who want to get out after just a few years. They don't get the cost of high turnover I guess, all the dumb companies don't get the cost of high turnover.. instead of keeping good employees, making them happy, they do the opposite, and don't seem to understand having experience is of upmost importance, instead they tick them off to the point they want to leave. My office while I was their had 100% turnover.

    Pros

Good opportunity if you are in the right department and location. Company uses product innovation to stay competitive and has done a decent job in staying relevant in the industry.

    Cons

Has a bad reputation for not paying claims which leads to disgruntled clients which leads to client attrition. Also, has a tendency to quckly become uncompetitive in any given market.

    Advice to Management

Find your niche and stay there.

I worked at Assurant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent IT and mot people were great to work with on a professional level.

    Cons

Top management has no clue what the competition is doing in the market. Lacks creativity in order to be competitive. Has a "beat the sheep" mentality when dealing with sales reps and trying to improve overall numbers.

    Advice to Management

Stop listening to the bean counters who use a computer to tell you how and where to sell in the market. Get your hands dirty and visit the market to find out what is going on. Just because you were successful as a sales rep 20 years ago doesn't mean you can apply the same paradigm to current sales reps today. The market has changed if you have not been paying attention. Adapt or die!
