I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work from home option, coworkers are great.

    Cons

Upper management is constantly trying to find away to get you in trouble, by threatening to take away your work from home option. They want you to make 100% accuracy with primitive computers and software that are constantly having issues. With low pay, unless your manager likes you, and if they dont, you will always get the lowest raise possible even though you're a good worker.

    Pros

Great facility and lots of things to do at the building. Decent benefits, but great 401k. Easy to move up, until a certain point. Management positions are difficult to get.

    Cons

Management doesn't seems to care about overworking employees. Very difficult to move up, unless you know upper management very well.

I worked at Assurant full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This was a really challenging job, with a lot of interesting problems to work on. I had a really good relationship with everyone on the business side of things, and was able to accomplish a fair bit to make their lives easier.

    Cons

This company has a very toxic culture within the programming group, reinforced by a history of programmers being treated very poorly by upper management. For a long time, they had a policy of hiring junior / mediocre programmers and low-balling them on salary, which allowed their legacy software to devolve into a ball of mud.

Rather than hiring high-quality programmers and re-factoring their system to make it modular and maintainable, they chose to re-write the system from scratch, spending 4 years writing a new order placement system and 5 years on a new order fulfillment system. These new systems are a mess, architecturally; the boundaries between systems are in the wrong place, the new systems aren't any better written, internally, than the legacy system was (unsurprisingly, since the legacy system is where most of their programmers learned Perl), and data gets copied between databases and falls out of sync on a regular basis.

    Advice to Management

The technical direction of this company needs to completely change. Invest in cleaning up your legacy system, and stop wasting time building new pie-in-the-sky systems.

    Pros

Flexible schedule at times. Easy to take your PTO that is given to you for the full year at the beginning of the year.

    Cons

No raises or bonuses. Promises not kept by upper management. Bad leadership. No communication or ability to voice concerns.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and do better at hiring good employees.

I have been working at Assurant (Less than a year)

    Pros

Supervisor was great and would have taken things in a great direction had he been given more leverage.

    Cons

Upper Management is all over the place and does nothing but ask other's to do their work. The departments are barely staying afloat.

    Advice to Management

Get with it.... horrible management system. Upper Management gossips more than works
