    I worked at Assurant full-time

    Pros

Company has embraced work from home and remote work.

    Cons

Company likes to have waves of layoffs throughout the year , filling the gaps with contract work or just passing responsibility to those who survive the purge.

I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Get to work from home

    Cons

This company has no business hiring remote employees in another state. The materials covered in the 1 month training do not even begin to prepare you, not to mention there are always issues with the equipment and the IT dept is not very helpful in those times. It is difficult to get answers to general employment questions and when you need support for an escalated caller, well you can forget that. You are basically left to fend for yourself. The in office employees are offered alot more incentive than those who work at home. Overall the company doesn't seem to care about its employees and their well being. The HR dept is a joke.

    Advice to Management

Hire management from within instead of bringing someone in off the street who has never been in the position they are managing, someone who knows more about the company than the new employee they are attempting to manage.

I have been working at Assurant (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Financially stable and long-standing company. Employees appear to have job security and generally, the average tenure is long (which can be good and bad).
    - Leadership is transparent and highly accessible.
    - Leadership seems fairly aware of some areas for improvement and has plans to overcome.
    - Good pay and decent benefits.
    - Flexibility with work from home policy (although seems inconsistent by team).
    - Recent relaxation of dress code (although this also seems inconsistent by team).
    - Convenient location near highways, new ballpark, mall, and lots of retail, restaurants, etc.
    - Feel like the company is generally on the right track, although very behind in some key areas.

    Cons

    - Some employees are stuck in the past or lack skills/understanding of modern ways of doing business which hinders progress.
    - Quiet office - feels like no one is ever here. Hard to meet people you work with and just a generally uninspiring environment.
    - Employee engagement committee doesn't seem to have resources or fresh ideas to keep employees engaged at the macro level, even with simple social events or fun rewards. At dept./team level, engagement doesn't seem to be an area of focus.
    - Limited to no formal mentorship or leadership training opportunities for employees.
    - Limited learning opportunities about lines of business and how Assurant operates.
    - Facilities are in desperate need of a renovation and not competitive for market. Very outdated, dull building/furniture/decor that isn't kept very clean. On-site cafeteria offerings are not healthy or good quality. No coffee cafe or gym or daycare or other modern amenities.
    - Constant technical issues with personal tech and lack of properly functioning technology in meeting rooms.
    - Limited brand recognition. Makes some prospective employees hesitant to work here and could make it harder for employees to find work elsewhere when they're ready to move on.

    Advice to Management

Serious investment in facilities and building/personal employee technology may seem like it shouldn't be a top priority, but you'll need to attract and retain top talent in an increasingly competitive market to meet company objectives and what we have right now just won't cut it. Employee engagement seems strong at some locations but the culture at the Atlanta office is lacking. Create more opportunities for employees to meet each other to foster collaboration and friendships that will increase employee happiness at work. Happier employees = more productive and passionate employees who stick around and recommend Assurant to other top talent. Invest in your employees by formalizing and scaling up leadership training programs and mentorship opportunities for all levels.

I have been working at Assurant full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people that are hard-working, loyal, dedicated, and extremely knowledgeable. Your team becomes your family and they have your back. Flexible work at home policy.

    Cons

Continuous shifts in management reporting structure, organization hierarchy and future vision. Expect employees to be available at all hours and ability to take on large amount of work regardless of what is already on their plate.

    Advice to Management

Increase communication and pause to appreciate the employees that remain flexible to support the ever changing needs of the company.

I worked at Assurant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits. Work from home days (depend on the department) are nice. Cool office in Midtown. They try to create a work/life balance. Some managers are more flexible than others, but people commuting from far suburbs should have more flexibility, especially when being in the office is not a requirement to create good work

    Cons

Boys club. Moving the cool office in midtown to the other, more corporate office in Windy Hill. Senior management is out of touch. No holiday bonuses. Not much upward mobility. Lots of outsourcing to contractors in India. Seemingly high turnover of talent. The way they laid off some team members was devoid of compassion

    Advice to Management

Talent is quick to leave because they can find a company with competitive pay and a much better work environment. The move to get rid of the Midtown office was an incredibly stupid one. Not only is Windy Hill a boring, and congested area which will get worse with Braves traffic, but the Midtown office kept the company competitive in attracting creatives from different areas of Atlanta. The walkability of the Midtown office was a huge plus and this is an example of how the senior management is out of touch with what the employees want. Since the announcement of the office change, there has been a mass exodus of talented, creative people. Assurant stifles creativity.

I worked at Assurant full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Knowledgeable hard working staff. Good interaction between staff when working on problems. Flexible work from home mentality. Ability to travel to visit your staff at other locations.

    Cons

Older legacy hardware. Under staffed. All hands approach to problems instead of pointed strategic approach. Constant state of re-org. A lot of off shore staffing.

    Advice to Management

Move away from forming favorite clicks. Provide backing to employees to aid projects. Listen to and value staff more
