    Pros

Culture is a huge emphasis at this company. Focus is on doing the right thing for patients. Innovation and collaboration are valued.

    Cons

Common challenges to the pharma industry. Cost, access to products, access to accounts. These are not unique to this company. Relatively flat org chart means fewer promotions.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on corp. culture and people development. It is a strength.

    Pros

If you are looking for a place where you can make a huge impact and learn by having a lot of different experiences and opportunities to stretch your knowledge and skills, then Astellas is the place to be.

Excellent compensation and benefits plans and really, really smart people to work with.

    Cons

Astellas moves fast, and in the home office you can't be shy about reaching out to develop your own networks. Being a Japanese based organization, the way in which things get done takes a lot of collaboration (which is good!), but you are expecting a top-down approach, this isn't it.

    Advice to Management

Astellas is heading in a good direction, with challenges ahead. The best thing to be done is to ensure priorities are aligned across the functions and have greater collaboration amongst the LT members themselves.

    Pros

Benefits are nice, but a highly political environment in HR and leadership is not supportive. Whispers turn into rumors and assumptions become facts, ultimately derailing careers. Do not recommend this as a positive work environment. Dreaded going into work and everyone is afraid that their job could be eliminated. Run.

    Cons

Pipeline is not strong, overspending is common for this small pharma company, decisions are made in Japan and can frustrate US employees, and the corporate politics make working here miserable.

    Advice to Management

To Japan: US leaders are feared and not respected. It starts at the top.

    Pros

A lot of shine without a lot of substance.

    Cons

Not sure who writes positive reviews here...internally things are a mess and culture is not a great place to work. A lot of stress.

    Pros

"Golden handcuffs" - amazing comp package for home office employees; great work/life balance. Friday afternoons off all year, flexible work hours, telecommuting, 5 paid volunteer days, subsidized company cafe, and more.

    Cons

STILL a white boys' club - no senior-level women or people of color in the commercial org. Leadership constantly demands innovation, but people who get promotions and prime assignments are the ones who don't make waves or challenge the status quo - always the "usual suspects" (more white guys).

    Advice to Management

Walk the talk. Create and empower true innovation, not just incremental improvement. Demand accountability and proof of results. If two equally qualified candidates apply for a position, hire/promote the female/minority candidate.

    Pros

    Excellent benefits and working environment

    Cons

Too many decisions made by Tokyo head office instead of locally
