    Pros

Staff are friendly. Management team in Branch want to succeed and will try to help you

    Cons

Upper management is not consistent with their policy. They change tactics just when you are getting used to their last directives. Some Branch management teams are more interested in firing staff than helping them succeed

    Advice to Management

Don't be so quick to blame the staff when outrageous branch/personal goals are not being met. Staff sees that in all branches the personal and branch goals are being raised while the previous goals were not met. This demoralizes staff and causes good employees not to care

    Pros

Good company, easy and relaxed environment. Great quality of life as you are not overworked.

    Cons

Not easy to get promoted unless you work on the income generating side of the business. People in those departments get promoted quick and often. Back office (cost) divisions rarely see promotions. Alot of unhappy people

    Advice to Management

Remember that the people behind the scenes help the people in front of the clients keep their promises.

I have been working at Astoria Bank full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Company has been around a long time and has come a long way with technology and innovation since changing name to Astoria Bank a few years ago. Though it is fairly large it has a "family" feel. Corporate office employees are very accessible to remote offices and branches. The company does a great job with employee recognition, engagement and getting involved in the community. Also, there are good opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

An acquisition by a competitor was announced in late 2015, but in late 2016 it was called off. That created a lot of uncertainty and a number of good employees left during that time.

    Advice to Management

Some members of executive management seem to be detached from everyone else. In an age where many executives at progressive companies have made themselves more accessible and "part of the team" some sincere engagement from the c-suite would be well-received by employees.

I worked at Astoria Bank full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Family atmosphere, room for career growth, good benefits, structured environment, great Human Resources team, Employee Engagement activities, opportunities to volunteer.

    Cons

Some managers and leaders do not know what they are doing; old-fashioned and too hierarchical. Current atmosphere is demoralizing because the future of the bank is uncertain.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times. There are a lot of smart people trying to move upward, just pay attention!
