I worked at Astoria Bank for more than a year

      Pros

hours are great, health benefits are fantastic, great cowokers

      Cons

management is horrible, broken promises, they are picky when they look to promote others. someone with a high school diploma can get promoted against someone with a 4 year degree...

      Advice to Management

give all a chance to get promoted from bank telling with a 4 year degrees instead of others who only have high school diplomas.

I worked at Astoria Bank full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Management was very official and kind. You learn a lot about banking through working here and everyone is out to help everyone.

      Cons

Training could be a little more thorough. The referral system that they hold you too is almost always impossible to complete fully. High stress environment for a very low pay.

      Advice to Management

Be more lenient on the tellers for their referrals and the financial consultant referrals. More training for all positions and make sure you hire good managers.

      Negative Outlook

I have been working at Astoria Bank full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Customer service is quite personal, and you get to meet lots of interesting people.

      Cons

The company is rapidly commercializing, but lacks the technology to keep up with other commercial banks. It's implementing policies that the systems used are not designed to handle. Sales goals are not only unreasonable, but unrealistic. Incentives for reaching said goals are so low they may as well not even exist. And good luck getting a management position if you already work here - they'll only hire from outside now....

I worked at Astoria Bank part-time for more than a year

      Pros

Entering the position as Teller I quickly learned the requirements of a professional business environment. The staffing is cool and everyone seems to be friendly. Everyone understand that a job needs to be done on a daily basis.

      Cons

You job is basically in the hands of customers who enter the bank as you are mystery shopped every quarter. If a customer just so happens not to like you their score can be based on their perception of you as a person rather than your customer service. At times it is difficult to build a relationship with customers due to the fact you must follow a certain pitch and procedure that is required with every interaction with...
