I have been working at AstraZeneca full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great science developing all the time, really wonderful people (for the most part!). Very supportive of further education and academic learning on the job. Reasonable benefit package on par with the industry.

    Cons

Too much overlap between roles in various layers of the organisation, too much committee based decision making so decisions don't get made fast enough. Performance not always managed we'll by some managers. Career progression is politically motivated not based on transparent criteria.

    Advice to Management

Look a bit closer at some of the management behaviours. Need greater transparency in people development, clearer behavioural & capabilities mapping for how to move to the next job, and better and more consistent management of people's performance.

I have been working at AstraZeneca full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great product and opportunity to help prevent morbidity and mortality of patients with CV disease. Company infrastructure us improving but a long way to go. Need better focus.

    Cons

Politics getting in the way of launch plans. Company hires people with expertise, and then Senior Managers who have no experience in the disease area but have longevity start to interfere and try and control the approach in the wrong way.

    Advice to Management

Allow the experts you hire to get on with the job and prevent opportunistic egoists from interfering

    Pros

    Good facilities
    Flexible working arrangements
    Ability to work from home

    Cons

Some people had to work everyday of their notice period (3 months, 6 months or 1 year) and other get to have a year off on full pay. No consistency between functions which cause tensions.
Career ladder limited if not in a Science based role

    Advice to Management

Need to treat all individuals the same. Huge salary discrepancies

I worked at AstraZeneca (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible reward package. Good opportunities for personal development.

    Cons

Too complex; attempts to simplify have actually added complexity (IT systems).
Lip service is paid to work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Stick to what AZ does well (the core business). Outsource the rest.

Pay was reasonable. Fellow process operators were good to work with. All SOP and guidelines established and followed. Onsite facilities.

    Cons

Shift work. Minimal chance of career progression. Lack of communication or interaction with managers and site leaders.

I have been working at AstraZeneca full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - good compensation package
    - friendly/stimulating environment
    - Massive company means a lot of opportunity for advancement
    -Good work/life balance

    Cons

    -Training is literally in-existent
    -Complex role with little clarity
    -Learn yourself attitude

    Advice to Management

I would advise managers to seek individuals who either are experienced on the basic attributes of the role, or if they wish to hire in-experienced professionals, then at least provide a comprehensive training schedule, since this will benefit both the employee and the employer

I have been working at AstraZeneca full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people, ethics and senior leaders, competitive salary & benefits package

    Cons

Big company, bureaucracy, slow decision making and in recent years, too many disruptive restructuring exercises. Not convinced by insourcing model that operates as a separate cost centre - not working!

    Advice to Management

Why wait so long to cut people costs when we all saw it coming last year?
