I have been working at Astronova full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

AstroNova is really making some great improvements right now. The work can be hard, but it's centered on growth and in turn it creates opportunities for everyone willing to work for it.

    Cons

With all of the transformations, there is a little uncertainty and an increased workload. It can sometimes be a little scary, but things are clearly moving in the right direction.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be as transparent and positive as possible. It is a great way to keep everyone motivated and excited about the current direction of the company and feel like we’re part of one global team!

I worked at Astronova full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Middle management is great, with open door policy. Benefits are ok but could be better. Nice workers but a lot of work office politics

    Cons

Not diverse!!! No women in management roles. Upper management running a good company into the ground. A true lack of communication good working people.

I worked at Astronova full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked here for two years. The pay and benefits were average. I don't have much else to say about this place. It is family owned and the people in the top positions are there because of who they know and not what they know. Do not expect to advance. This is not the place to get promotions based on your merit.

    Cons

Office politics. The people in the top positions do not have a clue. They are there because of who they know or that they have been there for a quarter of a century or more. The atmosphere is very cliquey and they do not take to newcomers readily.

    Advice to Management

Put people in charge that are there because they know what they are doing. You will find that the other employees will be able to contribute more and make the company better for it.

I have been working at Astronova (More than a year)

    Pros

lots of new management, seems like a lot of changes but for the better. Company is doing well and rewards the employees. Really good benefits package and work/life balance is pretty good.

    Cons

give more vacation and personal time

    Advice to Management

Continue to grow and continue to reward employees and promote from within

    I worked at Astronova full-time

    Pros

The pay scale and health benefits are in line with other similar businesses. Other than that, there's not a lot to recommend.

    Cons

Family owned business with nepotism the most important asset. Ancient computer technology that is in desperate need of upgrading. Office staff very cliquish, tending to be not very welcoming to newcomers. Hopelessly stuck in the 70s, replace the computers with typewriters and the office looks like a typing pool from a 1960s movie. Every morning the stuffed shirts tour the entire facility and tut-tut over yesterday's numbers. Difficult to manage workload since everything is a priority and needs to be done immediately.

I worked at Astronova full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For an entry level technician just out of high school or an associates program this job isn't bad. The work is fairly interesting, the pay is decent if you're young and just entering the working world and they're fairly flexible with needing time off.

    Cons

If you enter as an entry level technician then expect to get some experience and leave. Engineering here will disregard any in house talent despite managers telling prospective employees that they like to "promote from within".

You will get a 2% raise per year regardless of the quality of work you do, this causes employees to become apathetic and do the bare minimum.

Managers tend to overlook their employees behavior and let people get away with too much.

Company continues to support obsolete products for far too long there by shipping products that will ultimately return for repair and not be able to be repaired or be repaired just enough that the customer will receive it and have to send it back within a month or two.

    Advice to Management

Crack down on employees, there's some people here that serve 0 purpose and are just kept around because they have no where else to go. downsizing unnecessary employees and giving decent wages to the remaining employees would boost productivity. You have employees on the floor with awesome potential however they're constantly neglected and denied vertical growth in the company.

I worked at Astronova full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A well managed company focused mostly on stock value. Stability is created by three divisions in unrelated market niches. This balances bad times. One of the three divisions is usually hot, sometimes more. Good infrastructure. High quality modern equipment throughout production and engineering. A single engineering staff and production facility for all product lines is a good thing. Reasonable benfits, especially for those in sales, marketing and managment.

    Cons

A lot of family in upper managment, A lot of CYA mentality in the daily operation. A tendency to follow rather than lead technologically, although in the end their products remain competitive, they hang behind the curve a year or two and inovate only when beaten severely by a missing feature. Salary for in-house (non-traveling) support staff is poor.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to employess with customer contact ( sales, service, support ) and be proactive in product development rather than reactive. Not enough scientific research in Life Science products. More contact & high-level conversation with leaders in the medical field would help. Relying heavily on imported key components for medical systems endangers the Life Science product line. Encourage employees to admit guilt and eliminate the CYA culture and improve by acknowledging mistakes instead of blaming others. Embrace creativity.

    Pros

The managers are very friendly and generally very helpful.

    Cons

They will always low ball you for salary and dont expect any rise at the end of the year either. Management does not promote growth. good place for a first job. but sticking here for too long is a waste of time. get the experience you need and get out of here as soon as u can

    Advice to Management

try to promote employees and try to promote their growth

    Pros

Very lax atmosphere, allow personal time and are very understanding personally.

    Cons

Sales driven company, not interested in engineering quality. In R&D, nobody seems to have control of their products. They are constantly under pressure to produce quickly with little or no experience, and have to answer to the sales teams (indirectly) to cut corners and minimize costs.

I was routinely expected to fix things I was never trained on, then held responsible for its performance.

    Advice to Management

Take a little time and try to understand the technology you're trying to produce.

    Pros

it is a good place for your first job the managers are supportive and encourage you. it is a small company and the quality of work is very high

    Cons

the benefits are not that great. the workload is crazy and a better pay packet will make this place a nicer placeto work at

    Advice to Management

more frequent reviews to help employees know how they are performing and promote leadership skills. also better guidance for new employees (training ) would be welcome
