I worked at Athena Health Care Systems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

First nursing home I worked in with multiple occupational therapists instead of just one OT and all OTAs. When I started the job I had a great manager, very professional. Very supportive environment and the best nursing home I had worked in.

    Cons

Job started out great and then a new manager came in.
I was very displeased with how little the new manager cared about her employees.

    Advice to Management

A great manager with good morals will make all the difference.

I have been working at Athena Health Care Systems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Can't think of any except it's helping me pay bills... slowly

    Cons

Pay needs to be better, no significant 3rd shift differentials, NO weekend differential, no staff support always work short

    Advice to Management

Better pay, enforce YOUR policies, 3rd shift differentials NEED to be different than 2nd, PAY weekend differentials

I have been working at Athena Health Care Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefit package - insurance is very reasonable. (Would love to see something like EyeMed added the next open enrollment...glasses are expensive!!)
The Corporate folks I deal with are always pleasant.
My Administrator is wonderful.... not afraid to roll her sleeves up and help when needed.
Lots of room for growth in the company as a whole.

    Cons

We just received a pay raise earlier this year, but I feel like the salaries could be a little more competitive.

    Pros

You have clear understanding of corporate requirements and freedom to be creative and have fun with your community

    Cons

Must be a high energy individual. Company just laid off all marketers so probably centralizing all efforts. I would return to the company in s marketing position in a heartbeat!

    Advice to Management

Keep department heads involved to continue the momentum we created

    Pros

Cheaper health insurance than previous owner offered. No other pros. Is that 20 words yet?

    Cons

Short staffing. High turnover. Unethical management. Profit centered. Low standard of care.

    Advice to Management

It's really a shame about what happened to Evergreen Health Care Center when Athena took over. I did my research when I found out that Stu Rosenberg haD struck the deal with Athena and decided to get out sooner than later. I stayed on until recently as a per diem and have decided I'm done. On day shift we used to get 8 patients MAX unless there were unusual circumstances. now it's more like 12. I've kept in touch with former coworkers who tell me that the quality of care that Evergreen had a great reputation for has been disregarded in favor of cost cutting measures that impact the RESIDENTS in unfortunate ways. Pretty much the entire upper management team of nurses has either left or been seemingly forced to leave. Positions aren't replaced when people do understandably leave this nightmare company. Athena is a disgrace. But hey at least Lawrence Santinelli is living it up in his 4 mansions. I wonder if he will decide to live in an athena facility when that time comes?

    Pros

I get dental and medical insurance

    Cons

Poor pay . I think I deserve more with all the work I do.

    Advice to Management

Cna should be paid more with all the work they do. That's why some people don't put out their all for pts

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Fair salary. Fair benefits. That's all is there.

    Cons

Long hours. Unpredictability of work schedule - you may work late hours. Most patients are located in Athena facilities and their staff is very often rude and uncooperative - poor or no training about hospice services. A lot of driving!

    Advice to Management

Train facility nurses about hospice services and the importance of pain management. Facility nurses manifest poor skills in evaluating patient's pain and often do not administer pain medication properly. It is a true nightmare to work with facility nurses.
