I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Brilliant graduate scheme with fantastic mentorship and really friendly people. Amazing support for graduates. Opportunity to work on large and prestigious projects and contribute to society. Quite relaxed working atmosphere and decent benefits.

    Cons

Can sometimes feel like a small cog in a huge machine. It is a very immersive scheme which one can find difficult to do if they are not passionate about the work.

I have been working at Atkins for more than a year

    Pros

It has good engineering reputation but refer to the cons for bad graduate recruitment support

    Cons

The support for international student to apply for a Tier 2 work visa to remain in the UK is at its worse. The team is very unresponsive and the solicitor service provided is at its minimum. Atkins provides little to no help in the Tier 2 application.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

As a graduate you are given responsibility well beyond that of any other graduate in different firms - you are exposed to fully completing tasks on your own very early on. The people you work with in the company are great and the atmosphere OUTSIDE of project work is brilliant.

    Cons

Sink or swim mentality - you get chucked into the deep end with almost no support There is no structure to the graduate programme - you remain a graduate until you get chartered Pay is poor Not much room for progression - external hires are valued more than internal promotions.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Salary Review twice annually for new graduates Company encourages internal econdments to different practises Wide variety of sectors covered

    Cons

Divide between internal careers portal and temporary secondments is confusing Limited knowledge of upcoming work in pipeline to non-management employees Work can be very intermittant, I have gone long periods with very little to do in terms of technical work Company focus is more on consultancy services, limited design experience available.

    Advice to Management

Improve visibility of work pipeline to employees, many may be short on work and looking for additional projects to get involved in but there is no way to see which projects are upcoming so that they might offer their availability.
