      Great experience overall

      Pros

      - Fantastic manager and a very skilled team ( particularly Water Resources and Highway/Construction) - Work on complex, large-scale (up to $ billions) projects - Overtime pay typically available, depending on contract - Good culture with respect to letting teams and managers do their jobs, at least from my point of view. - A flexible company--my manager(s) were mostly very understanding of work-life balance and open to ideas, changes, etc. Flexible work schedule offered. Also, they let me switch into the Graduate Development rotational program, which allowed me to work within different facets of civil engineering. - A decent amount of work in the field, if you want it. - At the time (not sure how it is now), they didn't "cram" any "inclusion" initiatives down your throat... it felt like a naturally diverse and merited workforce at the Austin office, and a nice atmosphere.

      Cons

      - Acquired by SNC Lavalin (somewhat sketchy past?), making it an even larger corporation, effects TBD - Somewhat difficult to get in on the more "innovative" projects and solutions.. most work, on the individual, granular level, seems to be "build more, build bigger", and sort of run-of-the-mill civil engineering. - Found out an immigrant colleague within a different department was underpaid compared to American peers (the person was at the mercy of their work-visa, more or less). It could be an individual issue with that manager, but probably an industry-wide, or even country-wide practice, which wouldn't surprise me--nonetheless, it was upsetting and off-putting.

Opportunities to grow within excellent team

Apr 26, 2021 - Senior Manager in Alexandria, VA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Intelligent leadership and top-notch colleagues. Most teams are focused on continuous improvement with a balance for personal commitments. Opportunities to learn and develop within the company for those who raise their hand and are willing to stretch. Increasing collaboration within groups for work share.

      Cons

Being part of a global company there is no shortage of bureaucracy and process, which can mean less agility to minimize risks.

Worst Job Experience I've Ever Had

      Pros

There are no pros to this company.

      Cons

This was the worst job I have ever taken. Having been in my industry for 10 years, I felt very confident I could be an asset. What this job left me was doubt in myself after having been belittled and berated during my time at Atkins for the slightest of mistakes. There was zero training, micromanagement, and managers that would remind you how much they are paying you as if it is a favor. Stay away if at all possible, and make sure you set up employee assistance to help with your mental hygiene and work life balance. The company nor your manager will care.

      Pros

If you are lazy and dont want to learn it is GREAT ! Or if you are looking for a milking shed it is great..

      Cons

Management that since day1 want to break you down. Management mainly counting hours paid by the customers. What initial agreements that has been done regarding your type of work does not matter as soon you sign the paper. At team gatherings they run the mantra of how much possibilities you have to learn and advance. But when you talk about it with your boss he only meet you with silence. The collegues are amazingly low skilled and then you here that this is the reputation of your collegues from other consultants. When trying to come with new ideas you will only be hit down by the ones in your organization. And after a while thoose ideas pops up in another places. Got told to dress up and make a show for the customer... Appearence is more important than real values ! If I look at collegues and what they have achieved and their technical level it is scary... You are supposed to be online 0700-2300 and not knowing when your next day starts. Or how long that thay will be ! It is impossible to have any good work life balance... The pay for this type of work wasnt great at all(overtime/night)... A big misstake.... NOT A PLACE TO BE
