    Pros

Great place to work and good salary

    Cons

A lot of unethical promotions within

    Advice to Management

Rewarding those who barely do the job is unethical, while disciplining good workers because of their ethical beliefs will cause many turnovers and loss of valuable employees. Most of the top senior management know nothing about their departments and what the employees do on a daily basis

    Pros

I was able to be off with my children.

    Cons

If you are laid off and you try to seek another position within the company, you are overlooked for an interview. The Human Resources department does not offer any assistance.

I worked at Atlanta Public Schools full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Vacation time is generous.
Most of the employees are very hard working and committed to providing quality instruction.
Highest teacher salaries in metro Atlanta.

    Cons

Too many incompetent people in leadership positions.
    Micro management is rampant.
Teacher workload can be excessive and nearly impossible to manage.
Student discipline problems are generally ignored my administrators.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who are both qualified AND competent in leadership positions. Stop patronizing employees and treat them as the professionals that they are.

I have been working at Atlanta Public Schools full-time

    Pros

Big organization with lots of community ties.

    Cons

It's practically impossible to get a job unless you already know someone inside the system. In addition, support staff aren't given a voice to changes that are happening.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to level the support and structures across the system. Families in the north get way more opportunities. Families in the south get kept shifted by change.

While principals and teachers are important, there are many things that would fall thru the cracks if great support staff wasn't in place.

I worked at Atlanta Public Schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay, time off, seeing my students learn.

    Cons

Culture of little accountability. There are some good people here trying to turn things around, but they're outnumbered by those playing the blame game. You can do better elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

You will continue to churn through good people unless you have the guts to get rid of long-time paycheck sponges.
