I worked at Atlantic Coast Athletic Clubs part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Steady Hours, you could pretty much work whenever you wanted to

    Cons

Would leave lifeguards on stand for 3 hours at a time, led to dangerous situations where lifeguards would almost be falling asleep on stand or losing focus

    Advice to Management

Change your rotation around or staff more lifeguards at a time in order to reduce the amount of time a guard has to be on stand during a shift

I have been working at Atlantic Coast Athletic Clubs part-time

    Pros

Excellent team, a lot of support from all team members and management, great pay, great benefits. Lots of opportunity.

    Cons

Some favoritism from corporate. Less competent trainers being fed clients, more of a sales job than anticipated. Good sales people get more clients than good trainers.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I worked at Atlantic Coast Athletic Clubs full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management (overall and in the different departments) is usually pretty flexible with scheduling and hours. They like to have fun and maintain a happy atmosphere, but you do have to put in an honest effort. Lots of opportunity to try out different departments if you really want to. Pay isn't anything special but it's better than some other places around.

    Cons

A lot of things that shouldn't be personal - promotions, scheduling, time off, etc., - seem like they are. If you and another employee are both vying for a coveted position (say, going from part-time to full-time), it will be given to whomever the manager likes best personally. It didn't happen to me but a few of my co-workers were burned by this and ended up leaving a job they really enjoyed/were good at because of favoritism.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

The free membership is really great, additionally lower level management at ACAC is wonderful. Additionally, it is easy to get time off, which is nice during the summer months.

    Cons

The upper level managers are unappreciative of their staff. They are also incapable of hiring an appropriate staff. Instead of hiring a few good life guards and paying them more money, they hire 50 terrible life guards. They speak down to their employees and some of their members and have created a tense atmosphere at the health club.
