I worked at Atlantic Coast Athletic Clubs full-time

    Pros

The members are great and the relationship you build with them is phenomenal. The employees(that are not managment) are fantastic. You can build lasting friendships and everyone is so friendly.

    Cons

The directors lie and cheat to their own advantage. They are nice to your face and say they are there for you every step of the way and then throw you under a bus when its convenient for them. They do everything they can to take benefits away from employees. None of the employees that were there under the era of it being the MAC like ACAC. They all hate working under ACAC. They took away the ability for trainers to charge their own prices therefore causing trainers to lose a ton of money.

I worked at Atlantic Coast Athletic Clubs part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They have a good training reputation, people are nice.

    Cons

Pay is all commission, there's too much competition because there's about 30 trainers there. The facility isn't big enough for that many trainers. Management plays favorites and doesn't help out the new trainers that are struggling. Clients should be evenly distributed to everyone. Your best hope of getting clients is from management sending you them . The company cares more about making money than their trainers making a living. Also the gym members are so used to being haggled by the trainers that when you try to sell yourself they usually don't want to hear it. You have to work your butt off to make a living with this, and even then it isn't the greatest pay

    Advice to Management

Pay trainers an hourly rate on top of training, and send clients out to everyone. Bring people on full time, don't make them work for it. Stop hiring trainers, there should only be about 10 trainers working there. And don't put so much pressure on the trainers to sell themselves.

I have been working at Atlantic Coast Athletic Clubs part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice facility, personal relationships can be good.

    Cons

Corporate attitude is two-tiered: If you are management material, you're in. If not, you are seen as a functionary. Compensation isn't related to personal output, nor department performance. The hours can be hard with no breaks. You must find your own replacement in order to take off sick days or vacation time, but people are cross trained in other departments so realistically they are unavailable even though they are listed as substitutes. The concept of team is nice, but it doesn't include you.

    Advice to Management

Pay people a living wage. See service personnel's side as important to your businesses' success. A culture that compensates management to keep their employees from earning is a divisive tactic that makes all unhappy.
