    Pros

Good people, great technology, lots of potential

    Cons

Haven't been headed the right direction for a number of years, now that the MCHP acquisition has completed there is a serious lack of trust inside of the organization and of new management.

    Pros

Not many pros. I can't say I enjoyed it at all. It was a job, I got paid

    Cons

No work life balance. Very top heavy, High turnover. Micromanaged by the CEO.

    I worked at Atmel full-time

    Pros

4 days off every other week.

    Cons

Management horrible. Everyone hates working there. Poor raises and health care rises every year
so raise that you received is minimal.

    Advice to Management

Hire quality people and pay them more. All
the workers feel like slaves and are under constant
    stress of being laid off/fired.

I worked at Atmel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great coworkers, location and benefits

    Cons

Ever changing management structure and high retention rate resulted in poor decision making during my tenure. They hired me out of college and the salary offering was atrocious when compared to other companies in the area. It's the Silicon Valley version of slave labor. It's impossible to afford your own place out of college and you really need to work 2-3 jobs to afford your own place while working at Atmel. If you are upper management you earn a decent salary. If you are not ...i wouldn't waste your time here. Once I quit with no job lined up ...in 4 months I was able to get a 50% pay increase from what Atmel was paying me!!! that is all you need to know about this place!!!

    Advice to Management

Pay people enough money to sustain a decent living in the San Jose area

I worked at Atmel (More than 10 years)

    Pros

made a lot of money in stock options; opportunities to work on very interesting technologies

    Cons

70 hours a week , even if you're an excellent engineer (I was), isn't enough to meet Atmel's expectations. I took years off my life working at Atmel, and now (after I resigned) they won't hire me back

    Advice to Management

People are human beings, not work animals

I have been working at Atmel full-time

    Pros

Like the people I work with, like our products.

    Cons

It has no head. The CEO is a bully and arrogant and this filters down through the company. The company is also cheap, cheap, cheap and I don't see it really caring about it's people. I have no idea what is going on with this company.

    Advice to Management

Look at the valley and buck up. Pay better, be truthful, give better benefits

I worked at Atmel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Atmel Corporation has a lot of market oriented product lines.

    Cons

Atmel Corporation gave 2 different copies for employees to sign Release And Agreement during Exit Interview. The 1st copy for employees to review and sign. The 2nd copy for employees to sign and keep. The 1st copy stated that employees will have several months additional pay plus several months Cobra coverage. Most employees would not read the 2nd copy because they were told, "These 2 copies are the same." I swapped the papers because the 2nd copy stated 2 weeks additional pay only. Atmel Corporation is such a sneaky employer, especially under Perlegos management.

    Advice to Management

Do NOT cheat any ex-employee. Pay them back what they are entitled.

I worked at Atmel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has some good products but does not know how to make money like some of its competitors.

    Cons

The company is floundering from a strategic standpoint. They have a major strategic change every 2 to 3 years, so it goes around in circles without making much financial progress. The revenue has been declining for several years. The company makes a fraction of the profits that its competitors do.

    Advice to Management

Replace the CEO or merge with another successful semiconductor company.
