    I have been working at Auction.com full-time

    Pros

There are a lot of very talented people working in he tech department. Many are very dedicated and willing to go out of their way to help each other out. Catered lunch is provided 2 times a week from a variety of local places. They also offer flexibility to work from home.

    Cons

The number one problem here is the leadership. Not to say there aren’t any good leaders at this company - there are a few - but the majority are unreasonable and lead by emotion. Fire drills can be a daily occurrence depending on how senior leadership is feeling. Data and facts are often cast aside in favor of intuition. Business leaders are not held accountable, the org structure is very complex, political, and difficult to navigate. When product releases draw near, work life balance goes out the window and people are expected to work tirelessly and cast aside personal commitments. They claim to be a scrum organization but the business leaders don’t trust the tech org enough to really allow that then claim the process doesn’t work, though they are regularly the ones responsible for derailing it. Real advancement opportunities are almost non-existent. Pay raises are small, and the bonus program is structured so 55% is tied to Q4 performance - historically the company’s worst quarter each year due to market trends. I could go on but I think you get the picture. Some people thrive here, but its either because they are just like the crazy-making people who run the show, or they are able to put aside notions of making things better and just accept the chaos. Consider carefully and ask lots of specific questions before joining this company.

    Advice to Management

Make an effort to truly understand agile software development and then let the team execute on the process. Nobody is trying to exclude you - there just needs to be an agreed upon order to things or the org just spins its wheels and never realizes the full potential of what the team could deliver if they were given more trust. Strive to simplify communications throughout the company. Create real career paths within every department or you’ll continue to lose talented people to other companies.

I have been working at Auction.com full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Auction.com has outstanding leadership with a great culture which encourages professional growth and internal mobility. The GM and extended leadership team keeps employees informed on business strategies, outlook and provide clear goals to ensure our success. The company provides comprehensive compensation as well as benefits. They have great employee perks- Onsite they provide snacks, and a nice cappuccino/ coffee machine on every floor! It is a great environment to work in!

    Cons

We really don't have much in terms of Cons. The only thing I would mention is to have additional healthy snack options. They provide some however it would be great to add a few more. A variety of protein bars such as Think Thin bars and Luna bars. The fruit provided is nice however it would great to add bananas too.

    Advice to Management

Please continue to keep employees informed so we can be successful in driving toward company goals.

    Pros

Checks clear, decent options for HMO and PPO offer physical activity such as work out compensation. Located near big shopping district.

    Cons

Poor management, wasted time and money on inefficient processes, hire uneducated management, do not value education. Minimal to no growth, don't expect to be paid or recognized for result, mediocrity is praised. Poor pay and no control over bonus. No motivation. If you want to make anything of yourself don't work here.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to motivate your employees, value actual results. Stop being so cheap when you brag about how much money we make you.

    Pros

There are some great and talented people still left. Perks of lunches, giveaways and promotional items. This company is great at marketing and getting the public and employees to believe what they want it to.

    Cons

Don't be fooled by the good ratings that somehow "miraculously" trail the negative ones. This is by design, where there is smoke there is fire. This company is good at smoke and mirrors. If you are unemployed and desperate entertain this place until you can do better. If you are highly sought after and recruited, think twice and do not believe all of the things they will promise you. They are experts at sniping top talent and infamous for using them until they are washed up and broken.

    Advice to Management

There are still several wolves in sheep clothing here. Find them and get rid of them. Previous powers that be; you have hired all of the fancy names and titles to make your company look better. At the end of the day they get here see the culture and don't respect you or the people that helped you get where you are. Dig deep and figure out why there is NO job security. 70% of your workforce has been here less than 5 years. I guarantee those that have, have not been in the same position or department and they have seen NUMEROUS layoffs and ridiculous turnover. All of your talent has left or is leaving if not in reality at least in their minds which directly effects your end result.

    Pros

    The pay is above average

    Cons

Management has an identity crisis. The men that started the company are smart. This says nothing for their ethics. The company is always in transition, management spends more time and effort protecting their jobs than doing their jobs. Bringing Google on board was a feather in their caps. Unfortunately many of the management team have no management training. This leads to a company attempting to emulate a successful partner and missing the mark by a mile. Promoting or hiring a person into a position and not ensuring they are trained and have the necessary tools will never work.

I have been working at Auction.com full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is very customer focused and employee focused. We have team building events and happy hours such as outings at Top Golf, Casino Night at the office, and they also serve lunch once per week for all employees. The insurance benefits are some of the best I've ever had and they have a very nice 401k program. Several of the long term employees just got equity options (similar to stock options). I enjoy working here and have referred several people to come work here as well.

    Cons

Just like any large corporate company departments can tend to be like silo's and information between departments isn't always shared. But it seems like executive management has realized that and is working to fix that on the residential side of the business.

    Advice to Management

Keep the Austin office with the same vibe and energy it currently has. Office visitors from other offices comment on the cool and laid back atmosphere that we have. It's definitely an Austin thing!
