I have been working at Audible full-time

    Pros

I'm joining a place with a real mission, a popular product and the backing of one of the biggest companies in the world. Newark feel like it's on the cusp of revitalization and reinvention and I'd like to take part in it. It goes without saying the the benefits are ridiculous! I get the sense that talent is truly recognized and there is permission to disrupt, reinvent and grow. Would highly recommend jumping on board.

    Cons

The recruitment process was a bit more long and involved than I'm used to, but also transparent and fair, especially considering the caliber of the company I'm joining.

I worked at Audible full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This is an incredible product and the company is experiencing some amazing growth due to the popularity of digital audio. Audible has some decent perks and is part of Amazon (best part). With a new CEO and management team, this could be a 5 star company.

    Cons

The glassdoor reviews and "ratings trends" tell the story here. Just read the reviews and you will get a sense of exactly what is happening. There is an incredible amount of turnover at all levels. I can't overstate this.

Audible attracts very talented people but the unhealthy amount of chaos and dysfunction drives everyone out. Much of the chaos starts with the CEO. This is well documented so don't overlook. Some of the senior leaders who "run" the company are also responsible holding this company back. Politics are alive and well across Audible and good luck growing your career if you don't have the "right" manager. Consistently exceeding your goals has little to do with career growth at Audible. Again, beware of choosing Audible over Amazon, Google, Facebook, Amazon, etc.

    Advice to Management

Congrats to the CEO for launching and growing this amazing company over the last twenty years. It might be time to move on and focus on your other passion (rebuilding Newark). This business may have outgrown your ability to run it effectively. Don't be too proud to step aside and let a new CEO bring this company back to greatness and lead it through the next phase of growth.

Advice to senior management: Look inward. You can't hire your way out of a bad and toxic culture. What does the constant turnover say about the company you are leading? Don't overlook that there are some serious problems just because the business is growing.

I worked at Audible full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

AMZN RSUs. not so great free lunch, good product

    Cons

Not sure where to start but nevertheless -
    1. Politics - the senior management Directors and above also aspiring senior managers are all seasoned career politicians who survive on ruining the lives of the worker bees/minions. They absolutely treat these hard working smart minions as canon fodder and often lead them on death march projects.
These death march projects are nothing more than ill-conceived whims of a senior career politician who wants to prove a point which has nothing to do with the customer or the business

    2. The fledgling data science /analytics team as well as the engineering teams are treated like trash by the entitled "Business" teams read - product & marketing. These are for all practical purposes clueless egomaniacs defending their ivory towers and milking a great product developed decades back.

    3. Extremely high turnover rate - if you are in one of these minion teams doing most of the meaningful work surviving 1 year in this mess will be like winning an olympic gold medal. Working on meaningless death march projects and rubbish ideas of the "business" stakeholders will be your job day in day out. Surviving one fire drill after another is the order of business here and you will feel a high adrenaline rush every moment thinking - "gosh I survived this trainwreck"

    4. Great place to learn politics - should you choose the path of least resistance you better become a stooge/henchman of one of the insecure directors in the company and ensure your job safety.

    5. High burn out rates - Frequent reorgs and manager changes are the hallmark of this company. I had 6 different managers in my first 6 months here and moved across 3 teams. Not counting countless meaningless projects I did.

    Advice to Management

For once try to let go of your ego and fire all the director and above guys and get to a fresh start if you have the spine to do so. You are all stuck in your echo chambers and feel comfortable every morning seeing AMZN stock rise and patting yourself on the back. Your work has absolutely no contribution on the rise of AMZN stocks. All the senior management is stuck in their "happy place" conspiring against each other with their henchmen and eating mac n cheese. Remember getting too comfortable eating mac n cheese will one day block your arteries. Look into the grievances of employees who have left your org. Audible is a great product made decades back for once come out of your comfortable echo chambers and weed out the parasites in the company. All clues lie in the exit interviews of hard working disgruntled employees who got burnt.

I have been working at Audible full-time

    Pros

    Good direct manager
    Felt empowered to make decisions
    Lively drinking culture
Work on some of the best audio projects
Work/Life Balance (because there is very little to do)
CEO seems like a good person - sends strong all staff emails on issues that impact them, works hard to regenerate Newark.
If you just want to go somewhere and coast and take the amazing shares then this is the place, but if you ever want to feel like you're having an impact or doing stuff then it's a no.

    Cons

Projects drag on and on and on. Senior management are left to make the ultimate decision and wildly pivot about not making decisions.
    Very celebratory of average work.
Disorganised compared to Amazon and weird culture where they press that even though they are part of Amazon they 'still have startup culture'. Sadly that just means nothing ever gets done.
Extreme lack of diversity, everyone is the same. HR don't care.
Tech and Non Tech barely interact so issues obviously arise.
