I have been working at Audible full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Audible is a growth company inside a BigCo, and has some of the pros and cons of both. Pros would include great culture, work life balance and perks (great food, parties, etc.). Also smart, experienced coworkers and established teams with experts but also large enough to support less experienced new hires.

    Cons

Being in Newark is not ideal, especially if your partner works in NYC, but living in NJ does save a lot of money. As a growth company within Amazon, finding the right balance regarding how much time to invest in planning vs. executing is difficult.

"Nice culture. Poor management. Horrible HR team."

I have been working at Audible full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Perks. Free food. Smart co-workers. Office cultures. Work life balance. Some projects are good.

    Cons

    1. Location is not ideal. Even though they provide shuttle service from the path station, the location is just not safe. I've seen people getting into fights with blood all over at the station and heard female co-workers being harassed at the station. 2. Managers play favoritism a lot. Be aware of the team you're joining. There are still some good teams and good managers. Not many though. 3. The management has no concern for the employee but only for what's beneficial to themselves. 4. Constant re-org. Lots of politics. You might be surprised. 5. HR team is the worst I've ever seen. A lot of them are not doing their job properly.

I have been working at Audible full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They have free lunches everyday Under Amazon wing

    Cons

They literally dupe you. The higher management has no concern for the employees and what they want. There is a serious lack of communication There is no focus on employee happiness. They say there is a work life balance but I dont see it. There is a provision to work remotely but it is frowned upon by your colleagues. People gossip all the time and tend to be into other people's business. Overall a very toxic work culture. One hardly ever sees the CEO. Setting up meetings with anyone above your manager is next to impossible. No good intake program. No good mentorship program.

I worked at Audible full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I worked at Audible for over 7 years, moving through technology as an individual developer up to middle management. In that time, there was considerable growth, but the great things stayed the same. * Direct connection to customers. You'll frequently hear from them directly in public, and indirectly through customer care and product. * Close connection between your work and the missionary vision. Working on something that actually matters to people and having a direct line of feedback in that work. * Amazing access to cutting edge Amazon and AWS technology and the opportunity to use it extensively. * Incredibly connected culture where you can know most people, and a focus on building interpersonal and inter-team relationships. * No jerks, everyone tries to be collaborative and even when motivation differs, it doesn't become personal * Connections to Amazon teams, processes, and networking * Amazon infrastructure means all work is focussed on delivering value to customers, not building plumbing * Size means plenty of opportunity to influence and set direction, even as an individual * Culture goes beyond just free lunches and ping pong (though both are present) and includes a connection to Newark and focus on people first. * Great work life balance except in very minimal times of crisis. Plenty of time and opportunity to broaden knowledge and experience.

    Cons

    * As size has increased, so have processes, meaning less of a "just do it" attitude. In most cases, a good thing for higher quality, but in some can be frustrating if you can't just do the right thing. * Growth makes it harder to know everyone and build close relationships * Meeting focussed culture where days get filled up with meetings that could be quick discussions.

"A product-first company, to its detriment"

    I worked at Audible full-time

    Pros

    - Fantastic work-life balance - Incredibly intelligent engineering colleagues

    Cons

    - Everything (marketing, engineering, HR, etc) is done with a product-first mentality, meaning that a lot of the supporting infrastructure on both the technology, time scheduling, and human resources are assembled with a rickshaw, good-enough mentality, so a lot of issues arise from it. - Due to the aforementioned mentality, there has been massive technical and operational debt accrued in almost every code base and management won't prioritize removal of it unless the global ticketing system auto-cuts a deprecation request; this results in future technical work being far more difficult than is necessary because management refused to invest the time and resources to it as best as possible the first time. - The recent change in the company's official principles stripped away core values like "Insist on higher standards" and "show backbone." While the removal of these principles are actually reflective of how Audible has operated before then, that kind of culture leads to a very hierarchical structure regarding decisions made by upper management to its detriment. - If you change managers, chances are your career progression will be delayed significantly by that, and in some cases you will restart from scratch. - Audible over-focuses on account acquisition, leaving user experience as a second though most of the time, which makes it difficult to get emotionally invested in the work as it feels like we're just trying to do an aggressive cash grab all the time rather than giving our customers the best experience.
