I have been working at Aurora Public Schools full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Mostly collaborative environment with some folks who have lots of passion for what they do. Easy to gain lots of experience quickly and employees aren't kept in silos unless they choose to be.

      Cons

Zero advancement opportunities and salaries aren't as competitive as they will tell you. If you work hard and efficiently handle your work load, you can expect to be given more responsibility but don't expect to be compensated for it.

      Advice to Management

Hire more folks and additional FTE's so that the existing folks don't get strung out.

I worked at Aurora Public Schools full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Coworkers, supportive staff, pleasant environment overall.

      Cons

I had a lot of the students who needed the most help, students were unable to add/subtract integers, or use multiplications/division algorithms, because of the common core push, so when they went to take the state tests and they numbers were large they could not do them. - Lack of technological support for students to work at their own pace.

      Advice to Management

Incorporate more technology for the students and make them financially and ethically responsible for the use of computers/ipads etc.

I have been working at Aurora Public Schools full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

The students are incredible. APS has a wonderfully diverse community to work with.

      Cons

The administration does not seem to have a good grasp on the realities of teaching. There is a lot of micromanaging and assumptions that the teaching staff does not know what they are doing. District is very top-heavy; classroom funding seems to be last on the list (but there are a lot of "consultants" around to "help")!

      Advice to Management

You have some incredibly talented teachers working for you. Let them do their job and watch the amazing transformation that takes place.
