I worked at Austin College full-time

    Pros

    Excellent mentor
    Reliable funding
    Upbeat atmosphere
    Great learning conditions
Freedom to make your own decisions
Great for your resume or CV
    Payed lunch hour

    Cons

It isn't easy, but if you enjoy chemistry lab and theory, you can really get a lot out of it.
There's a decent learning curve in the first week or two, but the mentor will really make that manageable.

    Advice to Management

Everything is being handled very well

I worked at Austin College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A positive environment, lots of opportunities, and a good chance to get a feel for different jobs. Hours were very flexible

    Cons

The pay was only minimum wage, and no benefits were offered. However still a good work environment

    Advice to Management

I very much enjoyed working with management and the school in general. This was a positive experience.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

The benefits are good. Many positions offer work time of 9, 10, or 11 months but you are paid year round and thus have benefits.

    Cons

There are no clear guidelines on how things work or procedures. There is not a good sense of job security as one day someone is at work and the next day they are no longer employees. Some of the administration make very rash decisions with no clear plan. The administration likes to tear things down without a plan on how they plan to rebuild.

    Advice to Management

Plan ahead and try asking the advice of those with their feet in the trenches.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Austin College full-time

    Pros

Other faculty are outstanding, dedicated, collegial

    Cons

    Upper management destroying the institution

    Advice to Management

Salaries should keep up with the cost of living, at least. It is very telling that tenured people are leaving this institution as fast as they can.

  9. "Great People, but Management does not treat customers well"

I have been working at Austin College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very good people. Experts at their jobs. I love the atmosphere. I learned a lot and never felt too stressed. Supervisors are very understanding and coworkers are fun.

    Cons

Management does not treat it's customers well. They change their policies regarding customers and but continue to do business with Aramark, who constantly screws them over. They don't have to deal with the customers so we end up having to put up with problems that could easily fixed by management.

    Advice to Management

Treat Customers better. Your policies are killing your business.

I have been working at Austin College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Faculty are excellent, and working with students is marvelous.
-Lots of opportunities for personal hobbies and interests.
-Work is varied but not overly taxing day to day.

    Cons

-Staff and faculty do not mix at all; they are treated as separate "classes."
-Some departments are extremely poorly run and good luck to you if you end up in one of them. They are all talk and no fixing.
    -Moral can get very low.
-Internal politics are an absolute mess.
-Staff are underpaid and overworked. Insufficient precautions are taken during hazardous weather, forcing staff to come in (or take a day off) while faculty can cancel class. This has resulted in several broken bones/car accidents.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to lower-level employees.
