I worked at Austin Peay State University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked as a student, so i really enjoyed the freedom of having a job that did not compete with my class schedule.

    Cons

I really didn't like the inconsistency in expectations, nor did i not like the buddy system for doing things. It's just me. I don't don't like office politics.

    Advice to Management

don't know that i have anything that would be constructive to say... just keep doing the best you can and listen to those around you (no matter their title, rank, or lack there of).

I worked at Austin Peay State University (Less than a year)

    Pros

The working environment is generally pleasant for students. The amount you learn is highly dependent on what department you end up working in. If you already possess high-level skill with computer software such as Excel (and I mean you are able to do pivotTables, etc.), you may be entrusted with higher-level projects.

    Cons

Some professors are just jerks, and they will let you know. Watch out for idiotic bickering between professors. It happens in some departments and you can find yourself embroiled in it if you give anyone your sympathy. Just stay out of it. APSU doesn't pay anyone much, so expect to make very little while you are there.

    Advice to Management

You get what you pay for.

Nice People, good benefits, free time to pursue interests.

    Cons

I came from industry to academia so it was a big change for me. Unfortunately I didn't get any good mentoring so I was lost when it came to the tenure process and in the end I lost my job cause I didn't get tenured.

The only downside is that there is no adequate parking at the location. Really the only thing I could list.
