    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Autism Speaks full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great mission to work for and very motivating meeting and helping families. Always something new with events, programs, and services. Fairly new company (est 2005) with lots of growth potential.

    Cons

Quite a bit of turnover in staff in recent years; lacks consistency in management styles with new leadership coming in with new mission.

    Advice to Management

Create more transparency from senior staff to lower staff so that all feel included in the direction of the organization under new leadership.

I have been working at Autism Speaks full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Salary is better than some non-profits

    Cons

-Highly bureaucratic so it takes forever to execute anything at the local level with processes that are constantly changing without informing the staff. -The leadership uses fear tactics to threaten employees who may not reach revenue goal and fails to provide proper training and resources. -Staff who achieve revenue goals aren't rewarded or even acknowledged -Leadership fails to give deliverables needed to execute...

I have been working at Autism Speaks full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There is a ground staff that is consistently empowering and encouraging each other that tries to balance out the negative aspects of this organization.

    Cons

Time to say what most of the reviewers below are too hesitant to say: This organization is in the process of a very heartbreaking disintegration stemming from the misdirection of the president and her senior suite. The breakdown internally has separated the organization from the well-respected and visible key leaders of the national autism community and has dismantled the relationships the charity so closely depends...

    Advice to Management

The Board and the Cofounders must intervene before the organization develops an internal culture that is completely incompatible to the autism community and before there are any larger financial impact.

I worked at Autism Speaks full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The benefits are pretty nice, especially for a nonprofit. Some of the managers are pretty great, but are quickly beaten down. If you're outside of the New York office, things are fairly pleasant.

    Cons

Tiny merit increases that don't keep up with cost of living. Almost no promotion from within, except within the same small pool. Incredibly high workloads with little to no support. Unrealistic goals that employees have no hand in setting. You'll be required to do a ton of work, then only get evaluated on how much money you bring in. Feedback from the rank-and-file is considered hostile. There is no realistic view of...
