Great company and supervisor

Thoroughly enjoyed my time at AST. Great mentorship by my supervisor and directors. Loved the toy room and level of support on all front.
Cons
Hours were tough as I worked the late-late shift, but that's where most of the needs are with the kids and families.
We are delighted that you had a great experience with our great mentors, supervisors, and directors! Thank you for serving our families and being part of our team!

There are much better companies out there

Working with children. Pay seems comparable to other companies but they don’t promote often it seems.
Cons
Bad commutes and very poor and unorganized scheduling. Supervisors are never there for support or with families and the families know it which makes for some really uncomfortable conversations with the families. Strategies are poorly executed because the staff lack training. There are MUCH better companies out there for quality. I felt guilty having parents sign off on this work. I was literally out of programs constantly and asking my supervisor to approve my own to run based on prior experience. Little room for recognized growth. Switched companies and almost immediately was promoted to program manager based on education and experience. Would avoid this company at all costs.

Pros and Cons
May 22, 2022 - Advanced Behavior Interventionist inRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Training was amazingly thorough and professional. Company ensures you have as many hours scheduled as you have available.
Cons
Supervisors provided no consistent supervision, no feedback, and were very rude and unprofessional when asked questions to receive feedback on job performance. During BCBA observations, supervisors and BCBA's gossiped about other employees and did not engage with the BI or the client.

I'm glad you enjoyed our thorough training and your schedule. We take great pride in providing excellent training. As an organization, we believe our supervision and mentoring are critical to the success of our staff. We also invest a lot of time and energy in a supportive and inclusive culture. I'm sorry to hear you didn't feel supported by your supervisor. We encourage all our staff to bring concerns to their supervisor directly, with additional support available from the Clinical Director. I wish you well in your future endeavors.

Behavior Interventionist

It is extremely rewarding to witness the positive difference you make in not only your client's life but also in the lives of the client's family. Helping a child with developmental delays/disabilities progress and become more independent is a fulfilling experience. Training with AST was comprehensive and detailed. I enjoyed how well-rounded the training program was set up, with in-classroom training, online modules, and field shadowing. In addition, the scheduled quarterly CTM training helps keep me up to date and in touch with my fellow interventionists. I have had a wonderful experience with my Clinical Supervisor providing an appropriate level of supervision hours per week, responding to emails and questions quickly and thoroughly, as well as providing professional support within the job.
Cons
Compensation is variable depending on hours (not-guaranteed), client advance schedule changes (if more than 24 hours in advance, not paid), and minimal opportunities for growth without enrollment or completion of an MA program. Full time consists of 8 hours of scheduled direct intervention AND mileage and drive time. Full time hours (8), in order to receive full benefits and pay to cover living expenses, is really 12 hours with drive time to, between, and from each client. If there is one advance cancellation, approximately 2-3 hours of direction intervention as well as drive time, is lost which takes a toll on counted-on income. In addition, working full time (full days), takes away time from home-life impacting that work/life balance. Stressful in-home environment depending on parent involvement and client behaviors (aggression, SIB, etc).

Thank you so much for your feedback, especially on our training program. We strive to have the best training in the industry and its great to hear that you found it comprehensive (and enjoyable!). Over the last several months we've been working to improve our BI professional development program based on feedback from staff. Our goal is to make sure that our supervisors touch base with their BIs at least every 6-months to discuss their career development, as well as opportunities for raises/advancement. One of our missions as a company is to create as many opportunities as possible for our staff to grow professionally, so I absolutely agree with your advice! So thank you! -Justin

Not a job for long-term commitment

Flexibility with your schedule and friendly families
Cons
NO room for growth, I wanted to become a full-time worker despite so many requests to the company, but they just continued to hire several more behavior interventionists and employ more people part time. The upper-division staff did not really listen to your needs at all.
