Not a bad place to work

I, luckily, had great supervisors (although I ran into not so great ones). I got a raise after 6 months and although Im not working full-time, I still get my benefits because I was hired full-time, although that doesn't help my pay check.
Cons
Some supervisors don't necessarily implement the most effective interventions. Also, not very many hours are offered. I was hired full-time and barely get 20 hours a week. If I'm lucky, I get alternate cases but that makes my schedule variable and unpredictable. Makes it hard to plan a social life, not to mention balancing school full time.

Pros
The kids are adorable. Home sessions can be lots of fun depending on the client. Rewarding to see progress in Cx's.
Cons
This company does not value their employees. No pay raises or incentives to grow Opportunity for growth is contingent on you furthering your education. Cancellations
Continue readingWhile I am glad you had rewarding experience with your clients, I am very sorry to hear you did not see an opportunity for growth. We are very committed to the development of all our staff and if you are still with us, I strongly encourage you to speak with your supervisor about your aspirations. We believe that our compensation (pay and benefits) are competitive in every market we serve. I agree, that obtaining a Master's degree and BCBA is required to advance to a supervisory level in the field of ABA, but even without a degree there are opportunities for both pay increases and promotion at AST (from Behavior Interventionist to Advance Behavior Interventionist) based on your clinical competency and good work in the field. Please rest assured, we highly value our employees and appreciate all their efforts to help our client learn and grow. - Justin

Pros
Overall, great training program. AST has one of the best training for most ABA companies. AST offers a great cancellation policy, benefits, PTO, and supervisors. This company tries their best to give you a full schedule if needed.
Cons
BI's do not get any recognition from office staff, which can make you feel lonely and unappreciated. No room to grow even if you are working towards your Master's in ABA. No pay raises or promotions. Low collaboration opportunities. The only staff collaboration you get is from 'monthly' trainings that only take plave every 3-6 months. No paid holidays which sucks because you have to use your PTO to get paid on holidays. No incentives given for good / hard work. Bi's deserve to be given some form of praise more frequently and AST does not do that unless you work in their office. In fact, when you enter the office most of the time you are not even noticed unless you work social skills.

First, thank you for the praise of our training program. I also think it is the best around. I am sorry to hear that you don’t feel recognized or appreciated. What you do makes a huge difference in the lives of the families we serve and I agree that BI’s should feel acknowledged. I promise we will keep working on that. Thank you for the feedback. - Justin

Be okay with bureaucracy
Jan 27, 2021 - Training Technician in Orange, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-Hours are consistent -Work materials needed for role are provided -Available to get COVID vaccine -Twice a year performance raises (except they only hedge inflation) -The families make it all worth it in the end. -Easy to communicate with supervisors. -Can cover other cases and clients in order to increase hours. -Drive time and mileage paid. -Health insurance offered for employees. -401k match. -Have the ability to move up to full time as a technician.
Cons
-BURN. OUT. IS. REAL. (Management/Supervisors don't care about feeling overwhelmed because they need *billable hours* - billable hours get supervisors bonuses but not technicians at all) -Does not promote an environment that allows staff to be themselves at work. This is done by supervisors openly talking down about their staff in the office with other supervisors where anyone can hear, including a technician working in a cubicle. This is also done by favoritism and seniority affecting the feedback being given to staff members. One staff can use curse words at work that has been there for 10 years but another staff member who has been there for 2 years can't use words such as "awesome." -Concerns from lower level staff members related to the culture at the company and the feeling of inclusiveness is pushed aside in order to keep the system at the company the same with improvement for staff well being at every level.

I agree, burn out is a real challenge in this field. Have you spoken with your Clinical Director about your concerns with the environment in your region? We do take our culture very seriously and I'm sure they would like to work with you on this. Our new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee is also addressing some concerns like these. I'm glad to hear that you find our supervisors easy to talk to and I agree that the families make it all worth it!

poor company

Building rapport and feeling support from the families I worked with Obtained supervision hours, thank you!
Cons
Low employee morale High turn-over Constant changes to supervision with employees and families. No consistency Snobby management Minimal pay raises Families and Clients are not their number 1 priority...all about making money for the company. Pushed hours on families (to make money) Lack of staff performance monitoring and reinforcement systems Act like they encourage professional development, yet had no empathy for when scheduling to take BCBA exam

First, I want to thank you for your 5 years of service to AST’s families. Regarding responses to Glassdoor reviews, this is a fairly new practice, but something I am committing to do for every review (not just the ones that are flattering). I am very sorry to hear that you did not feel supported in your process of taking your BCBA exam. Professional development is not just a talking point for us, we truly want all our staff to have a valuable experience during their time here - however long that may be - so that it helps them pursue the career path they want. Let me say, congratulations on taking your exam! That is no small accomplishment, and I’m sorry you did not feel celebrated during that process. As far as AST’s priorities, I have to disagree. While we are certainly committed to being a successful organization, that can never come at the expense of excellent clinical practices or happy, successful staff. We have worked hard to be transparent in our town hall meetings and to solicit feedback from staff and implement changes to improve our organization for employees. Things like the LI and SI roles, free PassTheBigExam course, and technology investments are all a result of listening to employees. I am sorry that this was not seen or felt by you. I appreciate your feedback and with you well in your future work as a BCBA. - Justin

Thank you for sharing your positive experience with supervision and our extensive training! We work to ensure that our starting pay and benefits are competitive for the market. In addition, staff are generally* eligible for pay increase about every 6 months, so the longer you stay with us the higher your pay. *The pandemic certainly affected pay increases for most companies. We are very optimistic about the future for our organization and our staff. If you have any questions about your future development opportunities, please reach out to your supervisor for guidance and support. Thank you for your feedback and service to our clients!
