I have been working at AutoNation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Very systematic
    Decent schedule
    Room to grow
    Constant training
Managers stand up for their employees
Can move to pretty much anywhere in the country

    Cons

Terrible pay plan for the industry. Bring back the old pay plan or something a salesperson can actually live off of. Especially to compensate for the cost of living in Southern California!

Takes forever to accumulate pto. Gives 1 week for the first year where most places give 2 weeks. Don't be so cheap! We make you tons of money!

    Advice to Management

Revise the pay plan and give the standard 2 weeks pto!

I have been working at AutoNation full-time

    Pros

Base pay, room to move up within the company really fast, great compensation is not in regular sales floor.

    Cons

Pay plans change from one month to another, corporate buffs always on you about any little thing, higher position than a sales person prepare to work 8:30am to 9,10,11,12 at night.

    Advice to Management

Do not work your employees till they drop, compensation is reasonable but no scheduling and not following the closing time rules or 2 days off and break periods for any management position is not good for a normal human being.

I have been working at AutoNation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Competitive pay, the stability you would come to expect from a Fortune 200 company and the option to dress casual is refreshing for a corporate environment. Additionally, AutoNation on a macro level has grown to appreciate their employees by providing us with occasional paid breakfast and lunch events.

    Cons

Unreasonably high turn-over of UX/ UI designers who are usually terminated by the director over political and hyperemotional (and irrational) reasons. Lack of growth opportunities for contract employees; there are many of us that have been there over a year with no option in sight to become a direct hire. The UX team is the ONLY team comprised almost entirely of contract employees in Marketing. As such, contract employees are treated with disdain by the director who likes to run the team with intimidation and the constant reminder that our work is meaningless and that we are expendable. Poor team organization, lack of autonomy, vague project direction and abominable benefits (poor health insurance, no paid time off, no vacation pay, no paid bereavement, no 401k) round off all of the contributing factors that make this office a toxic workplace.

    Advice to Management

Team accountability starts with the leadership. Replace the director of the UX team immediately with someone who invests in people and subscribes to contributing towards a positive office culture. Hold future leaders accountable to be more respectful and appreciative of the employees who carry out the work. Like the other teams in Marketing, contract employees should be promoted to official AutoNation employee status within three to six months. UX/ UI designers with any self-respect should avoid working for AutoNation’s UX Strategy and Design Team at all costs as there is no amount of work, investment of talent or level of quality that you can deliver that will earn you a permanent seat with the company.
