    Pros

    Management was pretty laid back.
    Good work / life balance

    Cons

It is a retail job, pay is not good.
Expect to be a salesman. Management will post store revenues and expect you to up-sell.

    Advice to Management

Pay your experienced and knowledgeable employees a fair wage. If they hold any type of certifications such as ASE, then pay them a decent "living" wage. Your customers will appreciate having knowledgeable employees around.

I worked at AutoZone full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

20% discount on merchandise every day, 30 % quarterly. Cash tips from customers for installing wiper blades, light bulbs and Batteries(even though it is against company policy to accept tips.) That's it, nothing else good to write home about!

    Cons

Poor pay scale, you have to buy your own uniforms(black pants and red shirts), no break room and in some stores not even a real chair just a couple of stools. you get an hour lunch but no other breaks in an 8 hour day. You are constantly on your feet and being bugged by management to sell unneeded accessories or add ons to customers. You are expected to install batteries and get your hands dirty and then go right back on the sales floor before you washed your hands. Hours are always cut and the schedule is unpredictable.

    Advice to Management

Stock more hard parts(real auto parts) and train people how to sell them(mainly the younger kids) Stop making it into a disciplinarian environment where you do 99 things right and one thing wrong and all you'll here about is the mistake. Hire somebody to answer the phone exclusively. When you are helping customers in person, you cannot have a phone ringing! Stop worrying about unneeded felt washers for batteries and battery grease. Have college educated store managers. A major culture change needs to happen.

I have been working at AutoZone part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Learn about cars, employee discount, satisfaction of helping others, flexibility in the schedule

    Cons

They don't care about their red shirts. If you are part time and a red shirt you basically receive anything for your extra efforts. Even if you work the holidays, you don't get paid holiday pay. There are really no incentives to work hard. They want you too take all these tests throughout your time there and they want you to go above and beyond for the customer, yet they won't go above and beyond for you. Lastly raises are trash.

    Advice to Management

Have incentives for employees to work harder. Award people who work harder than others. Make everyone feel important. Provide free water bottles. Buy everyone lunch every now and then. Give better raises

    Pros

most employees are dedicated, hard-workers, with little or no skill-set, yet, they are able to advance their careers.

    Cons

Management is waaay out of touch with the most effective ways to increase revenue through positive employee relations AND they current structure does not hold senior managers accountable for refusing to do so.

    Advice to Management

Hire and promote managers that consistently reflect the corporate business model, without, cherry-picking who to develop based on biases.

I have been working at AutoZone full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

20% discount....30% quarterly, basic benefits, full time 40 hours not guaranteed

    Cons

have to pay an extra $50 for spouse on medical insurance even though its "family plan"
small raises yearly that medical insurance eats up, advancement almost non existent

    Advice to Management

ask current employees about advancement before hiring from the outside, improve benefits so employees aren't saddled with unnecessary extra medical expense, family coverage should be just that.
