I worked at Autodesk as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The products are truly groundbreaking, and all of the projects that people use Autodesk software for (as seen in the gallery) are genuinely making the world a better place. Everyone here is incredibly nice, and work-life balance is great - you can work from home 1 day a week or more depending on which team you're on.

    Cons

On the marketing team, things are slow to move because so many teams are involved. Launching a simple email campaign took longer than it should have - but they do a really thorough job.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to make marketing more agile so Autodesk can continue to be a strong presence in the 3D design world.

I worked at Autodesk as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great Work Life balance. The San Francisco office is sleek and has plenty of amenities. Company culture is laid back but driven, mostly centered around their core products.

The product is amazing too and Autodesk is the best at what they do. They also are investing heavily in future technologies that will keep them relevant as the needs of their users change.

    Cons

Older tech company which means some of the practices and technologies are a bit dated. Meetings are more a force of habit for the company than they are useful. Also, if you end up in the San Rafael office, expect to be around a much older crowd and a duller workspace.

    Doesn't pay so competitively either.

    Advice to Management

    Less meetings.

I worked at Autodesk full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people. Great products. Great facilities, perqs, benefits.

    Cons

Hyper-political environment. Leadership makes questionable decisions in an effort to build their fiefdoms. Lack of attention to existing, money-making products.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to better balance investment in wild ideas and existing money-makers. And try to kill the politics that constantly clouds decision-making.

I worked at Autodesk full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The products are phenomenal and so are the benefits of working there.

    Cons

Rapid change is leading to some culture shifts that are not healthy. The company is losing its employee focused edge.

    Advice to Management

In a competitive market, look to hire better senior leaders... how many have changed over the last 10 years? Why are the ones who don't get results still there?

I worked at Autodesk as an intern

    Pros

Great work culture. Focus on work-life balance and making progress within the role. Great opportunities to pivot and move into different roles and learn new skills. Some of the nicest most amazing people work there. Highly recommend the work culture and the people.

    Cons

As with most large companies, the roles are more specialized. It's hard to have a wide scope for your role depending on the size and age of your team.
