    I worked at Autotrader full-time

    Pros

The parent company Cox Communications had above average company benefits. While employed I has an opportunity to work on multiple projects impacting multiple departments.

    Cons

Career advancement was heavily shaped by political alignments and "yes men/women" faired better than those who preferred a "tell it like it is" approach to problem & opportunity solving.

    Advice to Management

Consider the views Japanese model where your solution and problem identification starts by weighing heavily the views and opinions of the people in the field and customer interface positions. Too much executive decision making without the facts resulted in various product changes and sales roll outs that ultimately hurt the company through depleted dealer confidence and negative impact on profitability.

Good company with generally good management. Environment is generally stable with occasional upheaval. Low turnover in development team. Contractors are treated fairly.

    Cons

Like many organizations this size there is politics. If you end up under the proper manager and director life can be good. Otherwise things can be tough.

    Pros

training opportunities, personal development, relaxing and fun place to work. truly enjoy working with my co-workers. Made some good friends at the company over the years. Great benefits with pension.

    Cons

company getting too big too fast, wasn't able to build up architecture to scale with that growth.
adding more corporation standards to reduce some of the fun things. I guess its kind of expected as we get bigger.

    Advice to Management

keep investing in knocking out the tech debt. it has gotten better in the past 1.5 years and it needs to stay as an every year focus!

I worked at Autotrader (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Cox is a family owned company with great benefits. The pay is fair.

    Cons

Hard to have a good work life balance. Leadership is constantly changing. In my opinion HR lacks the strategic vision. They are very tactical and seem to need guidance for every decision.

If you are related to the CEO of Cox Automotive you will definitely have a job with this company.

    Advice to Management

Walk the walk! Lots of lip service and not action. Front line managers are asked to develop and hold their people accountable but they get very little guidance from HR or senior leaders.

    Pros

Smart colleagues, working hard to stay in front of competition. Being trailblazers and innovative. Flexibility and work life balance. Tele-commute option.

    Cons

You have to be comfortable with change. So it's not really a con due to the fact that change brings growth.

    Advice to Management

Maintain communication, to make sure everyone is on the same page.
