I worked at Avago Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Above average compensation package, healthcare, 401k, etc.

VP level managers are very sharp and driven

    Good products

Almost no competition left in their niche space

    Cons

-Director level managers are lazy, doesnt proactively resolve problems. Many are old dead weights, milking time until retirement.

-Some roles have insane workload, expectation is that you will work almost 24x7. When things don't get done, you will be blamed.

-CEO's strategy is to acquire companies to artificially inflate stock value, followed by massive layoffs and then cycle starts again.

-People do everything to protect themselves from blames. It's hard to do job well when that's the strategy. Very dog eat dog environment and they will fire you if you are the victim.

Far eastern culture and work ethic driven by the CEO. Work work and work, nothing else matters.

    Advice to Management

    Improve company culture.

    Pros

Great colleagues, a lot of talented people work there. Many different opportunities due to the number of different business segments.

    Cons

The growth is not organic. Op ex is extremely important to management. Vision is specifically chosen to be short term.

    Pros

Good projects, good colleagues, reasonable benefits.

    Cons

Management policies are not necessarily irrational, but they tend to treat employees as inanimate objects.

I worked at Avago Technologies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Fair benefits, stock steady, company seems to stay ahead of other companies with new product. Some of the older employees are efficent , well trained and willing to answer questions that a poorly trained newby might ask.

    Cons

The middle management micro manages the cleanroom to the point of impeding the operators progress. Short staffed on most days, yet they call into the room to find out why there is a 4 minute gap from finishing one lot and starting the next when the 2 tools are across the fab from each other. No notice that your employees are frantic and stressed out. Bullies have figured out that management turns a blind eye to their actions, which encourages more bullying. I have not heard of any raises for operators the past few years, temp people came in with higher wages than a full time employee. Full time employees were forced to take 40 hours vacation in the dead of winter to save the company money.

    Advice to Management

    Please take some management classes.

I worked at Avago Technologies full-time

    Pros

the stock price is good and the company is growing

    Cons

1, Benefit is bad. There's no perk other than 401k
2, very political and finger pointing environment. If you are unlucky and led by a bad manager, life will be very tough and uneasy. Job security is not high. If the manager is unhappy about you, you may be let go.
3, lots of old people in wireless division. Other than the filter technology, circuit design knowledge is very old. the main design team is at Korea and not many profitable projects at San Jose

In a word, if you have a better opportunity at apple, google, join them.

    Advice to Management

Respect the employees as they are only there because the stock price has grown

I have been working at Avago Technologies full-time

    Pros

If money is all that you care about, then Avago is your place. Very good salary and stock benefits. Free gym. Decent prices in cafe. That's all though.

    Cons

No frills. No paper plates or cups or flatware in break rooms. No pain killers or OTC meds in first aid kit. Despite having continuing education benefits, management won't approve. Medical out of pocket premiums are very high for employees. CEO is extremely unfriendly. Managers look at their people as cogs in the big money making machine. No compassion. Cut throat competitive environment between teams.

    Advice to Management

CEO, start caring about your employees as human beings and your greatest asset. All the great pay won't build a great workforce. It takes great pay, support for the continued education and development of your workforce and above all compassion for your employees as your greatest asset. Then you will build loyalty and willingness by them to go over and above for you.

    Pros

Solid products and profit margins with aggressive goals.

    Cons

Buying multiple companies and laying off employees and closing sites to consolidate is leaving many searching for jobs and others staying on scrambling to take over work as catching teams. Overall environment of unease.
