I worked at Avago Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people. They are fun to work with and not a lot of office politics. The company does support its employees and allow them freedom to do thier best work with a good work/life balance.

    Cons

Good company to work for they support thier employees well but have made some poor management decisions on staffing that forced a later decision to layoff about 15% of the people working in my business unit.

    Advice to Management

When a group is slipping on its comittments try in getting more help or slowing down the project schedule and look beyond the near commitments. This will keep you from laying off people in large quanties.

I worked at Avago Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Structure is set up to reward employees when company and division does good. Most of the time the company met its goals.

    Cons

CEO is a bit extreme on cutting staff and facilities. Cubicles and labs keep shrinking. Staff head counts are controlled from the top.

    Pros

Good company and above average pay, very good benefits, repetitive easy work with okay work environment.

    Cons

Training could be better, lots of inexperienced workers and competition for advancement is sometimes based on favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in training and make more decisions based on performance rather than favoritism

I worked at Avago Technologies (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Good stock incentives
    - Diverse portfolio of projects for engineers
    - Talented engineers to work with and learn from

    Cons

The company is primarily profit driven and investor focused, with what seems to be little interest in keeping its engineers happy (e.g. no hesitation to outsource jobs).

High business unit operating margin requirements leave little room for R&D. The company keeps itself lean with its profitable product lines, spends little on innovation, and looks to acquire companies that have already taken the R&D investment risk to make something profitable rather than spend their own money to innovate within the company.

    Advice to Management

Start investing your employees as priorities, otherwise you'll continue to drive away top talent.

    Pros

Mature product lines, good work and good pay.

    Cons

Depending on your business unit (meet the numbers set by CEO, exceed the numbers, or below the line) - there is a constant fear of loosing job - resulting in below potential performance.

    Advice to Management

    1. Hopefully management has a long term (2-5 year) vision, rather than quarter over quarter vision.
    2. In lay-off's: use the performance-method over the buddy-method to retain the best talent.

I worked at Avago Technologies (More than a year)

    Pros

Part of small team with good cooperation and purpose. Overall, company had profit sharing and was growing. My experience was good and I learned a lot, mostly because the team I worked with was supportive in giving their time.

    Cons

Few extra resources for training or equipment. We got by, but it felt lean.

I worked at Avago Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Great compensation and benefits
    - Great co-workers
    - Office politics rare

    Cons

This company used to be part of Hewlett-Packard before spinning off into Agilent Technologies and then spinning off again into Avago Technologies. Recent acquisitions of LSI and Broadcom gives the appearance of growth and change, but behind the scenes it's business as usual. Engineers are promoted into leadership positions and there are very few, if any, really groundbreaking ideas being generated. Most people are just coasting through their careers, collecting paychecks, and turning the engineering crank. If you are interested in an exciting, high energy, high growth environment where you are doing meaningful work, this is not your company. If you want to spend the next 20 years getting paid really well and become really good at doing one thing over and over, then this is the place for you.

    Advice to Management

No sense in giving advice to people who appear successful on the surface. My only question would be, "Do you REALLY enjoy the work you are doing?"

"Decent company but kind of stifling"

    Pros

Innovative products and technologies. Great engineering community. Fast paced and exciting projects.

    Cons

Upper management can be stifling and not supportive. Feels like too much oversight from the main headquarters. Not much autonomy in local project and engineering decisions.

    Advice to Management

Trust local management. Trust local engineers to make sound decisions. The more empowerment the better.
