    Pros

My Position is going away but they have given me a good severance package. The new benefits are decent.

    Cons

This company does not value people nearly as much as the previous company I worked for.

    Advice to Management

Do not treat people like a bottom line entity

HP/Agilent heritage results in a decent and fair work culture and benefit, a very strong engineering team (tons of Ph.Ds). Efficient and strong project execution compared to competitors.

    Cons

Engineering has relatively lower status compared to marketing people, limited career advancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

more respect to the engineering team

I have been working at Avago Technologies full-time

    Pros

If money is all that you care about, then Avago is your place. Very good salary and stock benefits. Free gym. Decent prices in cafe. That's all though.

    Cons

No frills. No paper plates or cups or flatware in break rooms. No pain killers or OTC meds in first aid kit. Despite having continuing education benefits, management won't approve. Medical out of pocket premiums are very high for employees. CEO is extremely unfriendly. Managers look at their people as cogs in the big money making machine. No compassion. Cut throat competitive environment between teams.

    Advice to Management

CEO, start caring about your employees as human beings and your greatest asset. All the great pay won't build a great workforce. It takes great pay, support for the continued education and development of your workforce and above all compassion for your employees as your greatest asset. Then you will build loyalty and willingness by them to go over and above for you.

    Pros

very aggressive, highly focused on stock price, not always a bad thing. Good processes, very fast actions.

    Cons

People don't matter. Buying lots of companies and laying off lots of people from bought and original company. Singapore based. There is no income tax there.

    Advice to Management

    Treat people as assets,

    Pros

    Compensation is decent
    Stock price on the rise
Emerging as a stronger player in the consolidating semiconductor industry
    FInancially driven

    Cons

    Discrimination
    Politics
    Lack of Ethics
    Minimal focus on employee development
Low focus on enginnering and R&D, driven by the financial engineering

    Advice to Management

Need to focus on the ethics, morals and diversity across all divisions. Aging GMs who are driven mostly by their retirement goals bring very short term focus to the division, this will not benifit the employees at large, neither it is in the interest of the long term value for shareholders.

I have been working at Avago Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Compensation is very competitive, 401k match, underlying strength appears sound. The officers know how to make money for themselves regardless of what needs to be done.

The only light at the end of the tunnel is the layoff express's headlight that is headed for you.

    Cons

This company will suck any enthusiasm, dedication and motivation you may have had out of your body, and discard the dry dead husk and laugh while doing so.

    Advice to Management

Shifting all IT related tasks onto engineering does drop the IT budget (clap clap) however now everybody else who may not even be qualified has to pick up the slack. Thus making the entire business worse and less competitive.

While the company may have it's stock price based on (apparently) small budgets, the efficiency could be much higher and bigger profits made with up-to-date technologies and sensible planning.

The unbelievable shortsightedness of this approach is staggering, remember Lucent, Nortel and a host of others... yeah I expect you may find yourself there one day. Not that management cares one iota, since their billions will be banked away by then.

I have been working at Avago Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very knowledgeable and helpful coworkers; good IRA program - average benefit program

    Cons

No investment in employee training. Absolutely no cross fertilization of ideas between departments (actually people are discouraged from discussing ideas with people in other sections). Scant investment in R & D. Too much bottom line oriented ( this is from the CEO) and scant communication to line level employees.

    Advice to Management

More R & D and try to improve communications

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Avago Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The stock price goes up. If you are at the end of your career, you can make some money on RSUs and options if you survive.

    Cons

Note to Broadcom people, run! You are now part of the worst technical company. If your group is not immediately profitable, you might be lucky and get sold off right away. Otherwise, plan on immediate job cuts. These depend on where your business unit is each quarter vs Hock's required payments to him. No financial risks allowed. And you get less office space, no perks, cheap licenses, offshore desktop support, minimal R&D, etc. Business units were turned into silos to allow for better accounting and easy trimming later. Moral was unbelievably low. If this is the type of company you would like to work for, stay put.

And don't believe that Hock will have the heart to spare your group. It's not personal, it's just numbers on viewgraphs.

    Advice to Management

Better choose to be Hock's yes men. If you have a conscience, go somewhere else. Try to find another company that Hock won't buy in the future.

I have been working at Avago Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great & challenging environment to work for.
    Competitive but compelling work place.
    Pretty decent compensation.
Mature corporation but start-up work environment --> good benefits + good technical learning experience.

    Cons

Trainings available for new hires but it is not sufficient and 100% related to on-going projects.
But at the end of the day, you can still meet the objectives yet with great pains and effort.
No pains no gains, so it's worth it. It gave me a boost in technical skills after spending weeks/months in the lab for debugging & developing.

    Advice to Management

It's R&D I understand. But cut variety and focus on mandatory projects. It will help better with group management as well as project management. In a long run, it will cut costs & make employees happy.
So far so good on our management, but it can be better. Cheers for the hard work and prepare for the harder work to come.
