    Pros

Stock is doing well and the compensation is ok.

    Cons

    1. Poor management; most execs are just retired and enjoying their perks 2. Hiring practices and policies are the worst you can see in any real technology R&D company. 3. This is not a R&D or a cutting edge product development company any more; just focused on increasing margins.

I worked at Avago Technologies for more than a year

    Pros

    - Good stock incentives - Diverse portfolio of projects for engineers - Talented engineers to work with and learn from

    Cons

The company is primarily profit driven and investor focused, with what seems to be little interest in keeping its engineers happy (e.g. no hesitation to outsource jobs). High business unit operating margin requirements leave little room for R&D. The company keeps itself lean with its profitable product lines, spends little on innovation, and looks to acquire companies that have already taken the R&D investment... risk to make something profitable rather than spend their own money to innovate within the company.

    Advice to Management

Start investing your employees as priorities, otherwise you'll continue to drive away top talent.

    Pros

You should feel good.If you survive the brutal business model of do more with less and less until CEO can buy another company and lays you off.

    Cons

With Hack Tan as CEO, there is no passion for organic R&D since he is always looking to buy mature companies where he can cut cost and milk it as long as he can.

    I worked at Avago Technologies

    Pros

Compensation is decent Stock price on the rise Emerging as a stronger player in the consolidating semiconductor industry FInancially driven

    Cons

Discrimination Politics Lack of Ethics Minimal focus on employee development Low focus on enginnering and R&D, driven by the financial engineering

    Advice to Management

Need to focus on the ethics, morals and diversity across all divisions. Aging GMs who are driven mostly by their retirement goals bring very short term focus to the division, this will not benifit the employees at large, neither it is in the interest of the long term value for shareholders.

I have been working at Avago Technologies full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very knowledgeable and helpful coworkers; good IRA program - average benefit program

    Cons

No investment in employee training. Absolutely no cross fertilization of ideas between departments (actually people are discouraged from discussing ideas with people in other sections). Scant investment in R & D. Too much bottom line oriented ( this is from the CEO) and scant communication to line level employees.

    Advice to Management

More R & D and try to improve communications

I worked at Avago Technologies full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The stock price goes up. If you are at the end of your career, you can make some money on RSUs and options if you survive.

    Cons

Note to Broadcom people, run! You are now part of the worst technical company. If your group is not immediately profitable, you might be lucky and get sold off right away. Otherwise, plan on immediate job cuts. These depend on where your business unit is each quarter vs Hock's required payments to him. No financial risks allowed. And you get less office space, no perks, cheap licenses, offshore desktop support,... minimal R&D, etc. Business units were turned into silos to allow for better accounting and easy trimming later. Moral was unbelievably low. If this is the type of company you would like to work for, stay put. And don't believe that Hock will have the heart to spare your group. It's not personal, it's just numbers on viewgraphs.

    Advice to Management

Better choose to be Hock's yes men. If you have a conscience, go somewhere else. Try to find another company that Hock won't buy in the future.

"Avago's Purchase of LSI Really Trashed It"

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Avago Technologies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

LSI had decent facilities, and I had my own dedicated set of a great deal of top-of-the-line test equipment. The best part about LSI was the benefits package. They had good annual bonuses, very good medical coverage, and LSI "contributed" $2K to cover any deductibles.

    Cons

At least in the facility I was in (Mendota Heights, MN), there was an overly strict head-count for management and for the top technical ranks. So, people that were deserving could not get promotions, and there were "managers" that were having to do the role without really having the authority because they weren't official managers. But, the biggest problem with LSI now is that an overseas company: Avago bought... them out. Avago puts half the percentage of revenue into R&D as LSI did, plus they considered the business unit we were in as a "cash cow". As a result, they laid off essentially the entire R&D staff. A lot of really talented engineers were lost. Also, Avago is a very cheap company. Everything is done on the cheap, so the benefits administration is horrible, etc. (All my ratings are for the current setup (Avago), not for what LSI was like when I was there.)

    Advice to Management

If you don't want to invest in LSI's disk preamps, then spin them off and let them thrive on their own, like they were before you bought it.

    Pros

Nothing really, it is a job until it isn't

    Cons

Constant layoffs// No real future for R&D// Everything outsourced to cheapest country, or just eliminated entirely// CEO etc does not know or care about anything but executive bonus.]]]// Seem to be interested on PBLO - profit by lay off

    Advice to Management

You will P*** off LSI customers, they were paying for response, service, custom design, intelligent response to questions... You are trying to raise prices AND cut everything else that price increase should be paying for You are killing R&D, soon there will be no new products Seriously

    Pros

Only if you or your dad is a big investor to this company -- their stock prices are moving up these days.

    Cons

This is a company that considers R&D professionals as liabilities instead of assets. It doesn't work like a technology company. Instead it is like an Asian sweat shop run by ruthless accountants.

    Advice to Management

Nothing to say about the management. Don't work here if you are an engineer!
