    I worked at Avalere Health

    Pros

Still one of the best, ‘think on your feet’/‘if you can think it, you can do it’ organizations.

    Cons

Some personality issues can become accentuated in a place where everyone is an alpha.

    Advice to Management

Avalere has been great, is great, and will be great!

I worked at Avalere Health full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Some smart colleagues, some interesting projects, decent pay and benefits

    Cons

Not the Avalere of old which was collaborative, collegial, intelligent, and a thriving community. The publicly traded parent company is totally focused on the bottom line and assigs ridiculous $ targets to Avalere and its employees. Senior leadership at Avalere now sales people with huge targets who have to keep moving on to the next sale. Subject matter experts are not valued and rewarded - titles have been revoked...

I have been working at Avalere Health full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Avalere does a fair job of hiring incredibly intelligent, well-rounded, and insightful professionals.

    Cons

    1. Most of upper management (depending on your practice) are remote. That makes it very difficult to form relationships, obtain feedback, and get an honest review of your work. 2. Avalere is a bit cultish when it comes to their client deliverables. As project staff, you are essentially handed a coloring book and told to stay in the lines. 3. Creativity, out-of-the-box thinking, and ingenuity are not welcome if you are...

I worked at Avalere Health full-time

    Pros

As with all companies, consulting firms more so, your mileage will vary. Your experience and impression of the firm will depend heavily on your team, your manager, and your colleagues. That being said, here are my two cents... The pros are that there are some great colleagues at the firm. Being staffed on projects can be a bit of a rat race, but if you position well, and have some luck, you'll do better for it. The...

    Cons

It's easy to point out grievances around promotions and advancement as a 'con' for any company, but you'll see that anywhere, especially on an anonymous forum such as Glassdoor. As with any company, how quickly you get promoted is a combination of talent, work ethic, and luck. There is a push from HR and management to slow down promotions recently, though, but it appears to be targeted more so for those closer to entry-level....

    Advice to Management

Good luck - there's still a lot of potential but retention is a widely known problem within Avalere. Hiring more entry-level colleagues to boost numbers only temporarily hides the overall drain of talent. Senior leadership would do well to more frequently check-in with the well-being of junior and mid-level employees. Also...there's a number of legacy employees (10+ years tenure) who more or less got in early to the firm...

I worked at Avalere Health full-time

    Pros

You are usually paid on time. Free coffee or tea.

    Cons

The worst colleagues I’ve ever had. Their performance and treatment of others is sickening. It’s not uncommon for superiors to treat subordinates like dirt. Public shaming via email is also common. Let me be clear, this isn’t criticism of a deliverable. Some of the stuff these people say is downright vicious. I tried to input some direct quotes from what I’ve heard but Glassdoor flagged them as abusive language and I...

I worked at Avalere Health for more than 4 years

        Pros

        - The former CEO and founder, Dan Mendelson was generally speaking a nice guy. - Most of your colleagues will be smart and hard working. - Pay isn’t bad for the work, with opportunities to make a lot of quickly promoted. - Workers have flexibility to work from home.

        Cons

*I PUT 5 STARS SO THIS WOULDN'T GET HIDDEN UNDER ALL OF THE FORCED-HAPPY REVIEWS MANAGEMENT MADE US WRITE* (and yes, they will delete negative reviews). I will keep this short and sweet, as I could find myself writing cons about the company's standards, my personal managers, and the absolute embarrassment my office is:: THIS COMPANY TREATS THEIR STAFF BELOW A VP LIKE CRAP. Also, the bonuses never get paid out fully,...

        Advice to Management

I know how this goes. I worked at Avalere for 3 years and learned a great deal. I have a good job now and thankful for that. However, if I should ever have Avalere as one of my clients, hell hath no fury like a former coworker scorned.
