    Pros

Focused on new cutting edge technologies. Strong team of dedicated developers. Passionate carrying leaders. They have a great reputation with their customers. A high percentage of their business is derived from referrals from other customers. They have a strong focus on community and believe in giving back to their local communities.

    Cons

Like any small company they have their challenges in managing all of the administrative details associated with being nimble. Sometimes their is resistance to making the proper investments in resources to ensure the administrative details of the company are consistently implemented.

    Advice to Management

    Follow through on promises.

I worked at Avalon Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Avalon Consulting, LLC, has for the better part of a decade defined what a good consultant should be - competent, engaged, friendly, knowledgeable about technology and business. They aim high, and they have developed a solid reputation as a company that gets things done and done well. I have a deep respect for both Tom Reidy and Casey Green.

    Cons

The company has been navigating tricky waters in the IT sector of late, as demand for developers has shifted from content management to big data to data science to machine learning, and it can be argued that what the company specializes in - solid expertise in the field - has not always been achievable. As it gets larger, it is, perforce, becoming more traditional in terms of the talent it recruits. Compensation is on par with others in the same space.

    Advice to Management

I was right about Big Data.

    Pros

    * Small company respected by big name clients and business partners
     * Lots of repeat business with happy clients validates our work
     * Great exposure, hands-on, training, etc with top enterprise software
     * Mostly 10-15 senior technologist staff, careful recruiting leads to top notch co-workers
     * Excellent collaboration among employees
     * Company founded on great ideals, gives back to the community

    Cons

    * While company's regionally-focused model means less travel than most consulting orgs, travel still needed by staff willing to travel
     * Consulting for big name clients can be both exhilarating and intimidating

    Advice to Management

Keep up the amazing work, and don't let growth affect the wonderful culture you've created. The employees can tell you really care, that's a rare thing, hang on to that.
