I have been working at Avalon Health Care full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The wage is slightly above average.

    Cons

Benefits. They have changed the way PTO is accrued and it accrues at a much slower rate. The health insurance offered is expensive and there is a high deductible. There are more nurses in management than there are providing direct patient care. The schedule caters to part time nurses versus full time nurses.

    Advice to Management

Management is too top heavy. Eliminate one of the management positions and create a treatment/admission nurse. As it is floor nursing is responsible for all patient care with minimal support from nursing management.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Avalon Health Care full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The residents / Veterans made everything worth it. They deserve the best care and their families depended on us to care for them as we promised.

    Cons

I have never worked for such a dishonest company. I don't know how any person with one ounce of integrity or compassion could maintain any employment with them. I saw so much effort put into covering up poor care instead of correcting it. Don't be fooled by beautiful buildings and smooth talking administration once you are hired, you are expected to be part of the dishonest practice. I would not put my dying dog in any Avalon building! The administrators and DON's who ignore the treatment of the employees and neglect of the residents (you know who you are) are horrible humans, I don't how you sleep at night.

    Advice to Management

Congratulations on hiring the worst of the worst. Those that stick around are the ones no decent or moral company would hire. Thanks for keeping them away from the really good companies.

I worked at Avalon Health Care full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

there is absolutely not one pro at all

    Cons

Worked for company for 33 yrs. New regional management biased and UN-truthful Set employees up for failure and the company promotes un-safe nurse to patient ratio.

    Advice to Management

Investigate and validate all employee issues that Regional team comes up with. I dont Avalon would approve of the regional teams behavior and representation of the companies core values and principles.

I worked at Avalon Health Care full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Avalon has great core values and is very patient care oriented.

    Cons

Not loyal to it's employees. The pay is below average for others in Long-Term Care. Upper Management looks too heavy at if you have worked for other leaders in Long-Term Care and not your abilities. Time after time, employees (with not a single bad review) have been let go with no notice or moved to other less desirable positions. Upper management is not loyal to current employees (no matter their time with the company) and will replace them if they can hire someone who has worked for another leader in the industry, even if the current employee is more qualified.

    Advice to Management

If you want to stabilize turnover, your employees need to feel secure and that they are not going to be replaced. Lower line workers see all the changes at senior management positions and leave because the leadership is not stable. You need to respect and be loyal to your employees, especially those who have been loyal and dedicated many years to you.

    Pros

Excellent team, great staffing. The work atmosphere is great. People are held to high expectations for quality care and outcomes, but there is still a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

    Cons

None. You will be held to high expectations but that isn't a bad thing for most people.

    Advice to Management

    None
