I have been working at Avalon Health Care full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly residents and good staff team. Your hard work will not go unnoticed. You also get 2 free meals if you are in the kitchen department. The chef is also the best boss you can get !

    Cons

Some of the nurses have bad attitudes that needs to be changed, but that’s about it. This facility isn’t that bad.

I have been working at Avalon Health Care full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of opportunity to figure out things as you go. Pay is comparable with national averages.

    Cons

If you aren't good at figuring things out without a lot of guidance, this may not be the best fit for you. Benefits are so-so, no 401K matching.

I worked at Avalon Health Care full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits if you can afford them.

    Cons

I used to think Avalon was a pretty decent place to work up until a couple years ago when they decided to sell out their dietary department to the lowest bidder. Avalon used to be in control of their dietary department but then decided to bring in a different company to take control of it in an effort to save money. When this happened all dietary employees still worked at Avalon but for a different company. This resulted in the dietary employees losing all their vacation and sick time that they had been building up and being forced to start over at the bottom with a new company. When Avalon found that this was not profitable enough for them they decided to get a new company to come in and take over dietary. Once again, within just a year, dietary employees were forced to start at the bottom with another new company, and again lost all vacation and sick time that had been built up. This new and current company that is control of dietary offers bare minimum benefits, keeps employees as close to minimum wage as possible and does not offer any pay increases. As well as cutting hours and positions that are needed to properly function. This has been a despicable thing for Avalon to do to their hardworking and loyal dietary employees and shows that all they really care about is money and not their employees or residents. There is horrible communication between nursing staff and they are constantly short staffed and management/administration only help when there is a state inspection team in the building, causing overworked and overstressed employees which results in poor care for the residents.
