I have been working at Avaloq full-time

    Pros

Ambitious, technology driven and very clear vision about the future of the company and/or the FinTech sector.

    Cons

Since employees are usually working in one specific team it is very difficult to have a view of the whole company employee satisfaction. The resulting heterogeneous view makes it really difficult to rate this company globally (in a sense of a common view of all employees).

    Advice to Management

    - Open communication
    - Focus on University/ETH graduates high performers AND offer above average conditions to attract and keep smart people.

I worked at Avaloq full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-ACP Training (you'll get certified when you pass)
    -Office is nice-looking
    -Free snacks
    -People are smart
    -Learn banking

    Cons

-Salary offer is based on your previous salary, which is soooo wrong and unfair. They need to start compensating people based on the budget allocated for the job, not on their previous salary which is completely irrelevant in the name of logic.
-There is a training bond worth 200,000+ Philippine Peso effective for 2 years for the ACP training.
-Some tasks are mind-numbing, not too technical, innovation is encouraged but not practiced(yet).

    Advice to Management

Please be more creative in keeping the employees engaged and satisfied. Happy employees == great output == awesome business == less atrition rate.

    I worked at Avaloq full-time

    Pros

People are very smart, hard workers.

    Cons

Avaloq is only focused on Zurich. It has unrealistic expectations of its client-side employees.

    Advice to Management

    Fire the CEO.

I have been working at Avaloq full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The core par of the system is implemented in PL/SQL and they have manage to do some amazing stuff with it (such as OO and DSL:s). There are also some _very_ competent and passionate people and if you're lucky you get to work with them.

    Cons

The other side of the coin ;-) the core part is PL/SQL, who would do DSL:s and OO in PL/SQ:L today and why?!? recently there's been an epidemic of hiring B-managers-who-hire-C-people... Also cultural lack of accountability

    Advice to Management

    Implement a culture of accountability.

I have been working at Avaloq (More than 5 years)

    Pros

financial business, just outside city, possibility for outdoor running

    Cons

management hierarchy, low salaries, culture & values not for millenials, no real career opportunities, little chance for salary increases

    Advice to Management

raise salaries by 20%, reduce organisational hierarchy to max 3 levels (board, regional manager, team manager).

    Pros

Relaxed work atmosphere, can balance work and life quite well

    Cons

Few opportunities for advancement, culture is against innovation and taking risks, which is sort of understandable given that it's banking software and it's critical to avoid mistakes

    Advice to Management

Less talk about values, more action towards giving incentives to employees

    Cons

    HR policy not long-term based.
    Career evolution limited.

    Advice to Management

Make sure to keep experienced consultants with the company, instead of having a huge turnover and total loss of knowledge.

I worked at Avaloq (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is quite ok. Don't expect too much of the bonus, it might just be 0. Nice People. Free coffee and fruits.

    Cons

Unless your very lucky you'll be a small cogwheel unable to influence your work environment or system archictecture. So it will be more about learning the clumsy and badly documented architecture of the system than developing creative solutions. This is surely true for the server side kernel development in pl/sql and avaloqs own "domain specific languages", I can't speak for modern client side development.
Also the company has a tendency to aim high and fail in their growth targets, leading to sporadic mass lay offs (2 times in the last 4 years). The CEO is a bit of a megalomaniac.

    Advice to Management

Try to steer the company in less of a zigzag.
