    Pros

FrontLoaded Commission Paid until Pipeline can be Developed.

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations. Only accounts available are those which have been lost to competition or which offer no potential within a reasonable amount of time.

    Advice to Management

Bring new hires in as assistants to extablished Account Managers and do not just allow established Account managers to avoid prospecting and developing new business. Vicious cycle which has gotten them to exactly where they now are.

I worked at Avaya full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work from home, great products, good salary.

    Cons

The company lacks vision and changes its go to market strategies frequently. It struggles financially (ie chapter 11) and it is easy for an employee to become collateral damage due to mismanagement. Historically, it is known to cannibalize its employees via layoffs, in order to keep QoQ/YoY revenue declines, from looking too dismal.

    Advice to Management

Quit using 3rd party vendors, aka, business partners for everything. Instead, sell directly to your consumers. This way you'll be in better control of your customer's records, relationships, and reputation in the market.

I worked at Avaya (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Very talented and hardworking people.

    Cons

No work/life balance. As the company has been constantly downsizing, remaining employees take on more and more work. The pace was absolutely exhausting because there were no "down" cycles. It's why I left.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the evaluation system that forces managers to put a specific percentage of their workforce in an "unsatisfactory" category at rating time. After years of downsizing, you don't have any poor performers left. It's demotivational.
